Center for Independent Living

Began over 25 years ago in Berkeley, California, when five students with disableties graduated from the Berkeley college and subsequently found that society did not allow them to function as ordinary citizen's. So they lobbed the then Govener; Ronald Reagan, about funding for Personal Assistants, which are ordinary people employed by people with disabilities, to assist them with every day tasks which otherwise would be a barrier to living productively in society.
A better description of the CIL can be found at CIL; Dublin

From their success, disabled people began to take and advance this idea of using resources to decide how to live there lives and CIL's began to spring up around the world.
