Lesson Three

Robins on Trees: We painted a pale yellow wash on our pages. Then we painted a tree in brown. The next day we painted the snow on the branches. We cut robins from Christmas cards and stuck them onto the tree.

Robins sitting on the Tree: We collected a yoghurt pot, a large twig and a plastic robin. We filled the yoghurt pot with clay. We put the twig sitting in the clay. We painted snow on the tree with white acrylic paint. The next day we put the robins sitting in the tree.

SilhouettesUsing a stencil to help us and our pencil we drew a bird sitting on a tree stump. We painted a yellow wash over the picture, covering the whole page. Then we painted an orange wash over the yellow. and we painted on a red wash next. Finally we painted our tree and bird in black. Some added a fence or other things into their picture.

Clay Birds First we rolled two small balls of clay, one for the head and one for the body. We had to make sure there were no cracks in the clay.We joined these two together and shaped a beak from the head. We used a cocktail stick to make holes for the eyes. We added a tail and we used two matchsticks for his legs. We set him in clay shaped like a log.We painted our birds the appropriate colours and left them to dry. Then we varnished them.
