Newtown School--:was founded
in 1798, by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), Newtown Schools Bicentenary
was marked by An Post, with the release on 3rd September, 1998 of a new 40p
stamp. Designed by Eric Patton, it features a view of the original school building.
Drawing its pupils primarily, although not exclusively from the Waterford region, the
school now boasts a co-educational and multi-denominational student population of 370,
while still retaining its Quaker values of respect for the individual, of developing
broad experiences and of building a sense of co-operation rather than confrontation. It
has a wide and varied curriclum and is also part of the "Stellar Ireland"
project.
