First Reading Ref: Isaiah 50:4-7
A reading from the prophet Isaiah
The Lord Yahweh has given me a disciples tongue.
So that I may know how to reply to the wearied he provides me
with speech.
Each morning he wakes me to hear, to listen like a disciple. The
Lord Yahweh has opened my ear. For my part, I made no resistance,
neither did I turn away. I offered my back to those who struck
me, my cheeks to those who tore at my beard; I did not cover my
face against insult and spittle. The Lord Yahweh comes to my help,
so that I am untouched by the insults. So, too, I set my face
like flint; I know I shall not be shamed.
This is the word of the Lord.
Responsorial Psalm
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
All who see me deride me. They curl their lips, they toss their
heads. "He trusted in the Lord, let him save him", let
him release him if this is his friend. (R)
Many dogs have surrounded me,
a band of the wicked beset me.
They tear holes in my hands and my feet. I can count every one
of my bones. (R)
They divide my clothing among them. They cast lots for my robe.
O Lord, do not leave me alone, my strength, make haste to help
me! (R)
I will tell of your name to my brethren and praise you where
they are assembled. "You who fear the Lord give him praise",
all sons of Jacob, give him glory. Revere him, Israel's sons.
(R)
Second Reading Ref: 2:6-11
A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Philippians
His state was divine, yet he did not cling to his equality with
God but emptied himself to assume the condition of a slave, and
became as men are; and being as all men are, he was humbler yet,
even to accepting death, death on a cross.
But God raised him high and gave him the name which is above all
other names so that all beings in the heavens, on the earth and
in the underworld, should bend the knee at the name of Jesus and
that every tongue should acclaim Jesus Christ as Lord, to the
glory of the Father.
This is the word of the Lord.
Acclamation
Alleluia, alleluia!
Christ was humbler yet, even to accepting death, death on a cross.
But God raised him high and gave him the name which is above all
names.
Alleluia!

according to Mark
From the Pastor's Desk:
It's a Very Special Week.
The week to come is Holy Week. For many it will have a very special
significance; for many others it will be no different. For those
with Faith we believe that it is a commemoration of a week that
changed history. Take the events of this week out of history and
we are people who are going nowhere. This is the week in which
God's Son died for us so that we could have his hand as we journey
through life and look forward when we die to being with God in
happiness for eternity.
This past week we have seen on our Television screens scenes of
indescribable horror - very easy to look on dispassionately and
go on with our ordinary lives. It's a week that seems to have
brought hope to very many who had suffered long under a brutal
regime - but at what a cost! So many have lost their lives; others
are horribly maimed, many wounded with nowhere to seek care or
healing. And for those who survived, the future looks so uncertain.
Did Christ die in vain for so many? One thing is certain; many
of those who believe in Him could do much more to make the peace
He came to bring to the earth a reality for many who long for
it. We must, of course, do all we can to bring help to those who
are victims. The tragedy is a wake-up call for those content to
expect to benefit from the sacrifice of Christ without taking
too seriously his call to 'take up our cross and follow Him'.
This week we are challenged to accompany Him from the Supper Room
all the way to Calvary, by attending the Holy Week ceremonies
and if we are parents to lead by example. We cannot let the Lord
on his own on Calvary and expect to reap the reward of the Resurrection
on Easter Sunday morning.
If our faith life is lukewarm at best only Chris has the Power
to Change it. But you and I have to give him the key to our hearts.
This is a good time to give it serious thought!
