Invitation
to Mary
Where will you find this year, Mary,
Shelter for your holy Child?
Every door is shut in his face
By the pride and hate of mankind.
Deign to accept from me
The warmth of my island home,
Away in the distant west
Where Atlantic breakers roar and foam.
There a heartfelt welcome awaits you
And a turf-fire burning bright,
And candles lit in each window
Bid the wanderer rest for the night.
Mairtin O Direain.
What does Christmas mean to you?
For many it is a happy family time. For others it can be lonely
because a loved one has gone. It can bring back memories of joy
- or sadness. For some it will be a time to have a good time,
to eat and drink enough, or maybe an excuse to overindulge. It
can be hell-on-earth for homes where there is violence and drunkenness
- a Merry Christmas indeed! For us to enjoy the happiness and
peace it is meant to bring we must personalise the welcome we
give to the Christ Child, who is God, come down to earth and changed
it forever. In the poem above Mairtin feels the sadness of so
many doors shut in his face and offers him all he has to give.
Can you and I do the same this Christmas?
Prayer
for Vocations
God
our Father, send workers into your harvest. May the Spirit we
received in Baptism touch the hearts of many to offer themselves
in priesthood, religious life, and other forms of service. Give
the parents and families of our parish, the wisdom and courage
to support young people, in searching for and following the call
of God in their lives
The One-Sentence Sermon:
Give God what is right, not what is left.

Safety
on the Roads:
Christmas
is meant to be a happy time. Each driver can do his/her bit to
keep it that way. Better to be alive under 40 than be dead over
60! We are to love God and our neighbour, not meet them by accident.
Here's a little prayer you could keep in the car and pray it as
you begin the journey:
Motorist's
Prayer.
Grant
me, O Lord, a steady hand
and watchful eye
That none shall be hurt as I pass by.
Thou gavest life. I pray that no act of mine.
May ever mar that gift of thine.
Shelter those, dear Lord, who bear me company.
From accidents and all calamity.
Teach me to use my car for others' need;
Nor miss through love of undue speed
The beauty of the world, that thus I may
With joy and courtesy go on my way.
St. Christopher, holy patron of travellers,
Protect me and lead me safely to my destiny.
Think About It
Don't let your parents down,
they brought you up.
Be humble enough to obey,
You may give orders some day.
Chose your companions with care,
You become what they are.
Guard your thoughts, what you think
Is what you are.
Be master of your habits
or they will master you.
Pay attention when you drive,
Drive safely and arrive.
Resist pressure, stand up,
Or you'll fall for anything.
Keep God in your life,
He is always there for you.
Don't wait for six strong men to take you to church
