This
weekend the Church (the people of God) through out the world celebrate
the Feast of Christ the King, the last Sunday in the Church's
liturgical year.
When we speak of the word "King" our minds are drawn
to the great image of a person sitting on a throne wearing a golden
crown and a sceptre in their hand, reigning over a great deal
of people (subjects) and perhaps over vast areas of land. History
helps us to reflect on such Kings and Queens who reigned over
the British, German, Russian and French empires. But the King
and Kingdom that we celebrate this weekend is much different from
the earthly ones, they were built on "greed", "power"
and "money". Again history tells us, the second line
of our hymn puts it very nicely.
"Like Earth's proud empires pass away."
The empires that we ourselves have created, out of selfishness
in the course of our own lives, we will have to leave them all
behind when the King of Kings will call us from the throne that
will pass away.
As subjects of the King of Heaven and Earth may Jesus help us
to build up his Kingdom here on Earth, through giving to the hungry,
welcoming the stranger, clothing the naked and visiting those
who are sick and in prison. Then when the King will call us on
the last day may we hear his words:
"Come you whom my Father has blessed, take for your heritage
the Kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world."
Think About It
Don't let your parents down,
they brought you up.
Be humble enough to obey,
You may give orders some day.
Chose your companions with care,
You become what they are.
Guard your thoughts, what you think
Is what you are.
Be master of your habits
or they will master you.
Pay attention when you drive,
Drive safely and arrive.
Resist pressure, stand up,
Or you'll fall for anything.
Keep God in your life,
He is always there for you.

Thought for Advent.
Friday, a Day of Penance: Many will remember a time when we never
eat meat on Fridays. Some years ago that Church law was eased
and meat was allowed. However, while the form of penance is optional
the obligation to do penance remains. There is a serious obligation
to observe Friday as a penitential day, in memory of the Passion
and death of Our Lord. It can be fulfilled in one or other of
the following ways.
1. By abstaining from meat or some other food.
2. Abstaining from alcoholic drink, smoking or
some other form of amusement.
3. Family prayer, attending Mass, visiting the
Blessed Sacrament or praying the Stations of the Cross.
4. Fasting from food for a longer period than
usual and perhaps giving the money saved to charity.
5. Visiting or helping somebody who is sick, old
or lonely.
Reflection
So
be it Lord thy throne shall never
Like Earth's proud empires pass away
Thy Kingdom stands and grows for every
Till all thy creatures own thy sway.
(The final verse from one of the hymns for the Office of Night
Prayer.)

Don't
wait for six strong men
to take you to church
Prayer
for Vocations
God
our Father, send workers into your harvest. May the Spirit we
received in Baptism touch the hearts of many to offer themselves
in priesthood, religious life, and other forms of service. Give
the parents and families of our parish, the wisdom and courage
to support young people, in searching for and following the call
of God in their lives
The One-Sentence Sermon:
Give God what is right, not what is left.
