Special Thanks
A special word of thanks to all who attended the Novena for the Holy Souls.

A Reflective Prayer
"So stay awake because you do not know either the day or the hour."

As we come to the close of our Novena for the Holy Souls the gospel message awakens in each of us the need of always being prepared to meet with Our Saviour Jesus Christ
In the course of our lives we have often been foolish embracing the ways of the world and perhaps forgetting to store us for the rainy day. The day when we will have to leave all the achievements of this life behind.
Let us now in this month of November when we keep in our prayers the faithful departed and remember that one day we will be a Holy Soul. May the Bridegroom (Jesus) help each of us in our lives of service for him be sensible, and have the Wisdom (1st reading) to provide from the talents that he has given us the strength to build up his Kingdom of love, peace and joy in the course of our lives. May our Souls thirst for God and when the day the Bridegroom will come, may we be taken up in the clouds (St. Paul in the 2nd reading) to enjoy the fruits of the Wedding Hall in heaven.

Lectio Divina
Lectio Divina Prayer meeting in Fr. Martin O'Driscoll's house every Mon evening at 8:00 pm.

A Reflective Prayer
for the Holy Souls

God in Heaven I pray at this time of the year for the Holy Souls, my departed family and friends, and for those who have no one to pray for them. That you may grant them a place in Heaven with your prophets and saints, they served you faithfully in this life, despite the ups and downs that make up life itself. I may have been hard on them while they were on earth. I ask your forgiveness, and pray that you may give me strength to carry on your work where they left off and that one day we will all be together again in the joys of Paradise, which was won for each of us through the suffering, Death and Resurrection of your Son Jesus. Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let your light forever shine on them.
Amen

The One-Sentence Sermon:
Give God what is right, not what is left.

+++++++

Don't wait for six strong men to take you to church

Think About It
Don't let your parents down,
they brought you up.
Be humble enough to obey,
You may give orders some day.
Chose your companions with care,
You become what they are.
Guard your thoughts, what you think
Is what you are.
Be master of your habits
or they will master you.
Pay attention when you drive,
Drive safely and arrive.
Resist pressure, stand up,
Or you'll fall for anything.
Keep God in your life,
He is always there for you.

Prayer for Vocations
God our Father, send workers into your harvest. May the Spirit we received in Baptism touch the hearts of many to offer themselves in priesthood, religious life, and other forms of service. Give the parents and families of our parish, the wisdom and courage to support young people, in searching for and following the call of God in their lives

Dear Sirs:
I am in the process of trying to locate the exact place in County Cork from which my Buckley ancestors emigrated to the United States in 1836. On Murthey Buckley's tombstone is written: "a native of Ireland, county of Cork, parrish of Conway." Several years ago, a genealogist in Dublin led us to believe that "Conway" is the old name for "Convamore," an estate which lies adjacent to Ballyhooly. However, Irish researcher Tom O'Leary recently found information which indicates that "Conway" is probably a mis-spelling of "Cannaway," a civil parish within the Catholic parish of Kilmurry.
So now I am concentrating on Kilmurry, and I find that at least one Buckley family currently lives in that village. I would very much like to contact them and wonder whether you could provide me with their address. Perhaps they would know of a Murthey and Catherine Buckley, with young son John Franklin, who left County Cork in 1836.
Any assistance you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

My aunt Olga died recently and I have been asked to prepare some information for her obituary.

According to her birth certificate she was born on 6th July 1922 at COOLMAKEE which is near Farnanes. Her maiden name was HANNAH OLGA BARRY MURPHY and her parents were JOHN BARRY MURPHY and HANNAH nee DESMOND. I am told that Olga was sent away at the age of three to be adopted by her Aunt TIMS in Brighton i.e. in 1925/26, possibly after the death of her mother. I believe her only living brother and one sister are in Australia and there is a sister near Newcastle whom I am trying to contact.
However having found your web-site I thought it might be worth writing to ask if you can suggest any way I could find out something more about the family and the farm in Coolmakee.
Separately I also found a reference to a tomb in Kilcrea Abbey to JOHN BARRY MURPHY of Coolmakee who died on 17th October 1818 and which replaced an older one to DERMOD ROE MURPHY 1710 who is described in the Book of Sales of Forfeited Estates as "Darby Murphy, owner of the townlands of Coolmakee,Inniskersun (now Ryecourt), Knockshanavoe, Rathphelan and Ballinguilla." Would anyone know if there is any connection between the first Murphy on this tomb and Olga's family.
If there is any help or guidance you can give me I would be extremely grateful.
Yours Sincerely
Colin French
