November Novena for Holy Souls:

Begins with Mass in all three churches on Saturday morning as follows: 10 am in Canovee; 11 am. in Kilmurry; Cloughduv at 12 noon. Envelopes for names of those to be included can be had at church doors. Or if you wish just write the names on plain paper, pop them into a plain envelope with your offering and write 'November Novena' on the outside. Get them in by Saturday. It continues daily until Nov. 10. Times of daily Mass from Nov. 4 will be given next week.
Indulgences for the Holy Souls

1. From 12 noon on Nov. 1 to midnight on Nov. 2, all who having confessed, received Holy Communion and prayed for the Pope's intentions (one Our Father and Hail Mary, or any other prayer of one's choice), can gain one plenary indulgence by visiting a church or oratory, and there reciting one Our Father and the Apostle's Creed.
This indulgence is applicable only to the souls of the departed,
Confession may be made at any time within the week preceding or following 1st. Nov.

2, The faithful who visit a cemetery and pray for the dead may gain a plenary indulgence applicable only to the Holy Souls on the usual conditions once each day from 1 to 8 Nov. The conditions mentioned above apply also for this.

The November Novena of Masses begins on Sat. 2nd and ends on the 10th. Get the names of your loved ones included and better still make the effort for them and be there yourself. They depend on you and they deserve it. The envelopes are at the church doors.

Feast of All Saints, Nov 1 is a Holyday of Obligation. Masses will be as on Sunday; i.e. Thursday evening as on Saturday evenings and Friday morning as on Sundays in all three churches.

All Saints, Nov.1.
For those without faith life's journey leads to nowhere. We are all on a journey. For those with faith it leads to The Promised Land. On Friday we celebrate the saints with the small "s", who have never been canonised and whose goodness was known only to God, to family and friends. For them it is their crowning achievement and we will be rejoicing with them. We will be praying to them too.

All Souls, Nov.2.
Purgatory is part of our faith. It is a consoling doctrine, not an optional extra. It means that those who die free from grave sin but with un repented venial sin are assured of getting to heaven when free from these imperfections. However, they have passed the time of merit and now depend on our prayers, good works and sacrifices offered on their behalf.

The Church, conscious of how easily we can forget, sets aside each year the month of November as the Month of the Holy Souls. There are many ways we can help them. See what the Church has to say in another part of this Newsletter about indulgences we can gain for them; we can make a special effort to get to Mass daily and offer it for them. St. Monica as she lay dying appealed to her son St. Augustine to remember her at the altar of God. The Mass has traditionally been regarded as the best way of helping the Holy Souls because in it Christ offers again the sacrifice of his life to his Eternal Father. Just visit a church to say a prayer or light a candle for loved ones you wish to remember in a prayerful and helpful way. Those gone before us led by example. Could we not begin again to offer the Family Rosary while we reflect on the life and death of the Saviour and his Blessed Mother.
