Disc Art

The nice
people at Toei have updated the details on the Special Version
dvd, with a picture of the disc art. Quite nice if you ask
me. This is the last update for this page as in about 2-3
days time, I'm hoping to have a massive review of the disc.
It will be in the same vein as the previous reviews with an
abundance of screencaps.

Cover Art Changed?...Again!!!

A little
over 2 weeks since Toei changed the cover for the dvd... it
looks like they changed it again!!! The above image was posted
on Toei's
site today. I'm glad to see they've returned
to the white/red colour scheme but it's still not as good
as the original cover. In fact, you may notice that its basically
the Special
Version theatrical poster but with a dvd logo
slapped in the corner. This is the third cover for the dvd
and I wouldn't be suprised if we saw another change in the
next month!

Cover
Art Changed?

The
details on the Special Version retail release have been posted
on Toei's
site for quite some time, but I've just noticed
that the cover art has changed for the retail release. I must
say, I'm disappointed that they've chosen to revert to a red/black/white
colour scheme as the blue/white/red scheme works *so* much
better. The original cover really set is apart from all other
releases and gave it the impression that this is infact different
from the others.....Oh well.........at least they didn't change
the content! ^^;

Menu Screen-caps:
Feast your eyes upon 6 screencaps
from the menus of the Special Version DVD. The disc starts
with a short animated introduction, where the film is "hacked"
by The Third Man. After this, you are brought to a static
main menu that has accompanying music. Unlike the last DVD,
the sound options are placed on the Main Menu, so theres no
seperate page for that. Next we come to the Chapter Selections.
It would appear that there are 48 chapters for the movie ,
and by the looks of it chapter stops for the important additions
to the Special Version. These menus continue the faded map
design, which I have to admit is growing on me. Very classy
looking. The Special Features section is referred to as "BR
Memorial". All of the features are placed in chronological
order from April 1999 to April 2001. Very nicely done and
again, adds a touch of class to the overall presentation.
Why does May 21st seem so damn far away?!?!

Special Features Screen-caps!:
Today I was lucky enough to recieve a whole load of screencaptures
from the supplemental material of the dvd. The scans come
from the behind the scenes material and from the looks of
it, this disc is definitely going to outdo the original version.
Theres also pictures from the new Video No Oneesan! The video
was especially for Fukasaku on his birthday and details the
necessary items for shooting a movie. Very cool stuff indeed.

Complete Specs:
The complete specs are listed
above for the dvd. It looks to be packed with extas, much
more so than the original release. The extras I'm most curious
to see are the audition material, Oneesan's "Birthday
Version" video and the Tarantino TV Spot! Roll on May
21st!!!!!

Retail Release Date:
Special Version will be released on 21st May 2002 for
a retail price of ¥5,200. There are some additional
special features to the disc as compared to the rental release.
I should have accurate details on these features in the next
few days.

Special Version R2 Japanese Rental Release:
As if the news from Tartan wasn't
enough, Toei posted details on the upcoming release of "Special Version"
on dvd. Running 122mins in length it contains 8 minutes of
additional footage along with some audio and visual effects
changes. The disc contains 2.0 and 5.1 Dolby tracks, anamorphic
picture and some great special features. This is a rental
release so expect the retail version around April '02. Sadly,
like the original release, this does not contain english subs...
I'll have more details on this as they become available to
me...
