  With students around the country finishing exams, the current 3R tape has some useful advice for people thinking of working abroad, with an interview with Aideen Masterson, Marketing Executive of USIT.  We also have two pieces with an Olympic theme, whilst we continue our series of reflections from Fr Diarmuid Ó Murchú, MSC.
 

  Side One:

1. Crossways: News in the Church and the World.  In our main report this week, Liam Greene, SJ speaks to Fr. Martin Clarke of the Catholic Youth Council, who is leading his twelfth annual pilgramage of young people to Taize.  The news was read by Liam Greene, SJ and Elaine Comerford.

2. Changes in Society at World Level: Fr. Diarmuid Ó Murchú, MSC is well known for his workshops with Religious in America and Australia.  He is the author of many books, his most recent one being Reframing Religious Life. In this, the 3rd interview in a series of five, Kathleen Dooris RSM, asks him where he thinks the world is at.

3. "Knock to the Reek 'n Week":  is a pilgrimage that will take place in August from Knock to Croagh Patrick. It is exclusively for young adults and aims to incorporate prayer and reflection. It also promises to be an enjoyable time exploring Irish historical sites. Brendan McManus, SJ, a student of the Milltown Institute of Theology and Philosophy, has vast experience in this ministry. Along with Jeremy Black, SJ, he will lead the week long pilgrimage. Brendan spoke to Elaine Comerford and described the experience.

4. Hints for Emigrants: Many young people and students will leave Ireland over the coming weeks to work abroad for the summer. Many don't know what to expect in foreign countries. Imelda Deegan spoke to Aideen Masterson, Marketing Executive of USIT, who gave some tips for these travellers.

5. Stress Clinic:  St John of God Hospital in Stillorgan, Co. Dublin is known the length and breadth of Ireland. Founded in 1882 as a private psychiatric hospital, it offers treatment and care to people of any denomination in accordance with Christian tradition. Now it has opened the doors of its new Stress Clinic. Orla O'Neill, clinic co-ordinator, told Lorcan Brennan how the clinic came about.

1. The Special Olympics: The Special Olympics Torch Run began in 1981 in Kansas USA and was launched world-wide four years later. It is now the largest fund-raising event for the Special Olympics throughout the world. The torch run involves Police forces carrying the Special Olympics Torch along a planned route to raise awareness and money for Special Olympics and people with learning difficulties.  This year Ireland's run has a special significance, as the Gardaí and the R.U.C. run together toward a special meeting point.  Dervla O'Mahony, one of the co-ordinators of the run, spoke to Lorcan Brennan  about the Special Olympics.

2. Paralympics:  The Paralympics were held in 1960 for the first time. Since that year Ireland has always entered a team. The event takes place this year in Atlanta, USA from the 16th to the 25th of August.  Ann Ebbes, a member of this year's Irish team, and Sports Director for the Wheelchair Association of Ireland, spoke to Lorcan Brennan about preparations for the upcoming event. Ann is also Secretary General of the Irish Paralympic Council.

3. East Timor:  More than 250 people were massacred in East Timor in 1991. Arnold Kohen is director of the Humanitarian Programme for East Timor. He also advises both Catholic and  Protestant Bishops on International Humanitarian issues  in the United States. His expertise is in Church matters in East Timor and he is a close confidant of the local bishop, Bishop Belo. On his recent visit to Ireland Lorcan Brennan asked him, what could Ireland do during its Presidency of the E.U. to help the people of East Timor.

4. St. John the Baptist:  Victor Wheatley is a retired teacher with an interest in Scripture.  In this interview he presents two very interesting images of St. John.
