On this 3R tape, the last tape until August 27, we have interviews with John Moriarty on the relationship between the Church and the Arts, and a singing dentist who with the band Glasmira has released an album of hymns in both English and Croation with the proceeds going to Irish Bosnia Aid. Columba Press recently launched a book titled `The Meaning of Knock’. Donal Flanagan edited the book and Fr. Michael Drumm, lecturer in Theology in Mater Dei, has a chapter in it on `The Meaning of Pilgrimage’. We have two interviews with Michael Drumm. We also have pieces on two historic events that occured in the last couple of weeks - the Pathfinder mission to Mars, and the 2nd European Ecumenical Assembly since the Reformation.

1. Crossways: News in the Church and the World. In our main report this week we hear an update on the situation in North Korea from Niamh O'Carroll of Trócaire. We also hear how appreciative Trócaire is for all donations received. The news was read by Elaine Comerford.

2. Céide: Céide, an Irish word meaning assembly or forum, is the title of a new  periodical to be launched this summer. Coming out of the west of Ireland, it aims to be  a place where serious and inclusive debate can take place between the different strands in Irish society today. Céide will be bi-monthly and will be edited by Kevin Hegarty and managed by Brendan Hoban. The first edition will be launched by President Mary Robinson on August 23rd. Martin Browne spoke to Fr. Brendan Hoban about Céide.

3.  Healing of Memories: The healing of memories is widely recognised as a vital step on the road to reconciliation and unity for divided churches and communities. But what does it entail ? Theologian Fr. Dermot A. Lane addressed the topic during this year's Glenstal Ecumenical Conference. He spoke to Martin Browne.

4.  Pilgrimage: At this time of year many people go on pilgrimage to Lourdes, Lough Derg, Knock, Croak Patrick, blessed wells or other holy places.  In this interview Marie Stuart, RSM, talks to Fr. Michael Drumm about the significance of going on a pilgrimage.

6. Healing Mass - St Therese : As part of the celebrations of the centenary of St. Therese of Lisieux the Carmelite Sisters in Firhouse, and the local parish have organised a Healing Mass to be celebrated at the National Basketball Arena, Tallaght on Friday August 1st.  Doors will open at 6.45pm and Mass will begin at 7.30pm.  Sr. Breege McKenna will be present and will lead the prayer for healing after Mass. Marie Stuart, RSM, talked to Fr. Colm Matthews PP, Firhouse, about healing and about Sr. Breege’s special ministry of healing.

1. The Church and the Arts: John Moriarty, mystic, philosopher and story-teller, spoke at the recent Church and Media Summer School at All Hallows College, Dublin. John spoke about the relationship between the church and the arts. Robbie Foy spoke to John and started by asking him how he first started thinking about the Church and the Arts.

2.  Glasmira - Gerard Molloy: Dr. Gerard Molloy is a dentist practising in Dublin. He is also a member of the five piece band Glasmira who have recently released an album of hymns in English and Croatian called Open Your Hearts My Children, with all the proceeds going to Irish Bosnian Aid. Robbie Foy spoke to Gerard and first asked him how he got involved in singing hymns.

3.  Trip to Mars: It would take the fastest jet plane 8 hours to fly all the way around the earth, 10 days to reach the moon, 10 years to reach the sun and 3 years to reach Mars.  On July 4th this year the Spaceprobe `Pathfinder’ with its robot `Sojourner’ landed successfully on Mars.  Marie Stuart, RSM, talked to Fr. Paul Lennon O Carm about the possibility of finding life on Mars and the significance of this trip in the context of the on-going search of human beings for truth and meaning.  Paul teaches philosophy at Milltown Institute.

4.   European Ecumenical Assembly: Recently over 10,000 people from over 150 Christian Churches around Europe gathered in Graz in Austria for the 2nd European Ecumenical Assembly. This was the second such assembly since the reformation, and the largest ecumenical gathering of it's kind. The first assembly was held as the Berlin wall came down, and so this Assembly had as it's theme 'Healing and Reconciliation'. Geraldine Smyth, Dominican Sister, the director of the Irish School of Ecumenics was at the assembly and on her return she spoke to Andrew Lawless. Andrew started by asking her the background to the whole assembly.
