Following the resignation of Cardinal Cahal Daly, this week's tape has an interview with Fr. Brian Darcy, CP, in which he give us his reaction to the news. Other interviews include different areas in which the youth of Ireland are involved. With the Peace Process at a delicate stage, we hear from the Glencree Reconciliation Centre about their aims.

1. Crossways: News in the Church and the World. In our main report this week we hear from Fr. John Dardis, spokesperson for Archbishop Desmond Connell, on the resignation of Cardinal Cahal Daly. The news was read by Liam Greene, SJ, and Elaine Comerford.

2. Media Ethics: The two leading morning newspapers in the Republic printed front-page photographs of a Dublin criminal, Michael Brady, on September 6th last. He had been shot dead in his car outside an apartment complex in Dublin City. The photographs, in which is face was visible, showed him slumped in his car, shortly after he had been shot. Pádraig Conway has challenged the way violence and suffering are represented in the media and he shared some of his thoughts with Martin Browne. Pádraig, a Sligoman, is secretary of the Irish Theological Association. He works as Assistant Director of the Trinity Foundation at Trinity College in Dublin.

3. Glencree Reconciliation Centre: Since 1974 the Glencree Reconciliation Centre, Co. Wicklow, has offered a safe, inclusive and welcoming space to groups and individuals, who wish to work together to make a positive contribution to the building of peace. Through its programmes, the Centre has involved teachers, school children, politicians, business people, (youth and community groups and many others,) in initiatives which have contributed to better relations between the people who share these islands. Ian White, who works at the Centre, spoke to Lorcan Brennan about the importance of the work at the Centre. He began by telling Lorcan why it was founded in the first place, 22 years ago.

4. National Catholic Charismatic Youth Conference: Michael Healy is the administrator for Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Ireland and also one of the organisers of the up-coming National Conference. This year's conference will take place in St. Patrick's College, Drumcondra, Dublin, on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th of October. Lorcan Brennan spoke to Michael Healy, and first asked him if he believed people knew what Charismatic Renewal was about throughout Ireland after 25 years of its presence.

5. TAP CARD: Trocaire have launched Ireland's first Charity Loyalty Card, with the help of An Post. The TAP-CARD, which stands for Trocaire - An Post, is a simple device designed to make supporting Trocaire's work more convenient. John Heuston is Information Officer for Trocaire. He spoke to Lorcan Brennan and told him how the new TAP-CARD will make it easier for people to support Trocaire.

1. Youth 2000: is an international initiative of young people working in co-operation with priests, religious and lay people. It is founded above all on adoration of the Eucharist, active evangelisation and the organisation of retreats and spiritual events throughout Europe and other parts of the world. It aims to help young people grow spiritually and to take up their rightful place in the Church. Christina McDonnell has been involved with Youth 2000 for a number of years. She told Lorcan Brennan about the movement and how it is helping young people world-wide to find a renewed path in faith.

2. Youth Forum: Presentation Schools Youth Forum: As part of the celebrations leading up to the Beatification of Edmund Rice, the Presentation Secondary schools held a Youth Forum in Cork last week. The focus of the day was justice and the speakers were Brian Crowley MEP and Adi Roche. Ciaran O'Connell and Fiachra Ó Suilleabhán, two Leaving Cert pupils at Colaiste Chríost Rí, Cork, told Marie Stuart, RSM, about the Youth Forum and also about a Leadership progamme they were involved in and the new approach of the Presentation Brothers through the Presentation Family

3. St. Therese of Lisieux: St Therese: On Saturday September 28th a Year of Celebrations to mark the centenary of the death of St Therese of Lisieux got under way with a conference, held in Terenure College and attended by over 400 people. A drama documentary entitled Flowers under my Steps, was directed by Barry Barnes and recounted the life story of Therese. Fr Jimmy McCaffrey, ODC, gave the keynote address and Marie Stuart, RSM, talked to him afterwards about St Therese. Jimmy, a native of Sligo, is currently living in Jerusalem, teaching Scripture and Spirituality and caring for pilgrims. In his earlier career he taught at The Miltown Institute in Dublin and also in Australia and India.

4. Disability Resource Centre: The Disability Resource Centre is an information and display centre of 'assistive devices' to help improve your quality of living. Although it is based in the Centre of Dublin, it provides service to the whole country. The Centre has information on thousands of items - from door knobs to wall plugs. It is of interest to people with disabilities, older people, their family and friends. Donie O'Shea is manager at the Centre and he spoke to Liam Greene, SJ, and showed him some examples of what's on offer. 5. Resignation of Cardinal Daly: Fr. Brian Darcy, CP, who has known Cardinal Daly over many years - and encountered him in a memorable way on The Late Late Show last november - spoke to Alan McGuckian, SJ, after the Cardinal's resignation. Alan asked him about his reactions to the news.
