I hope you enjoyed the Summer, and are looking forward to a busy Autumn. One of the big events coming up is the Beijing Women's conference, and on our tape this week we have an interview with a woman who will be attending the conference. We also look at the recent letter to women written by the Pope, and we hear about the lives of Carmelite nuns.

1. Crossways: News in the Church and the World. For our main report this week, John Dardis, SJ spoke to Trocaire's Andy Storey in Rwanda. The news was read by Elaine Comerford and Liam Greene, SJ.

2. Beijing Conference - Pauline Eccles: On September 4th, thousands of women will converge on Beijing for the fourth International Conference on Women, sponsored by the United Nations. Pauline Eccles from the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace will be there, and talks now to Kathleen Dooris RSM about the forthcoming conference.
In Eccles: "There's a very wide............and needs in all those." Time: 3.57
3. Pope's Letter to Women: In recent weeks Pope John Paul issued a letter addressed exclusively to women. What has he to say to them and how has his letter been received? Dr Margaret Mac Curtain, senior lecturer of history in UCD offers us her views.

4. Rwandan Refugee Experience: Fr John Dardis, SJ has just returned from Tanzania where he spent the last three months working with refugees from the Rwandan crisis. He spoke to Brendan Mac Manus, SJ about his experience in meeting the refugees.

5. Sr. Magdalena - Carmelite life: The Carmelite nuns came to Ireland in the 1600's and went underground during the penal times. Earlier this year two Carmelites, Srs Magdalena and Patrice, appeared on the Late Late Show in connection with the rebuilding of their monastery in Tallow, Co. Waterford. In this interview Sr Magdalena talks to Marie Stuart RSM about the life of the Carmelite nuns.

1. Church Liturgy: An international conference of liturgy scholars took place recently at St Patrick's College in Drumcondra. Among the participants was Fr John Foley, SJ, one of the St Louis Jesuits. His songs, like The Cry of the Poor, One Bread One Body and others, have been widely used throughout the world. He spoke to Alan McGuckian, SJ before the conference about his understanding of the Church's liturgy and he likened it to a work of art.
In Foley: "The artist or the composer..........future will tell, we'll see." Time: 9.39
2. The Potter's House - Thought: Fr Diarmuid Kerrisk is an Augustinian priest who is a potter. He works with retreat groups and a range of other groups using clay. In this reflection he talks about the scripture story of the potter's house.

3. Greenpeace - John Bowler: Fifty years after the devastation of Hiroshima, the world is still not free of the threat posed by nuclear energy. As the French insist in going ahead with nuclear testing in the South Pacific, we hear now of the efforts of Greenpeace to stall such operations.

4. Parish Missions: Fr Jay Shanahan CM spoke to Alan McGuckian SJ about a forthcoming seminar on parish missions which will be held at All Hallows Institute, Drumcondra on Tuesday, 12th September.

5. Columba Community Derry: Tomas Toal talked by phone link to Fr Neil Carlin, founder of the Columba lay Community in Columba House, Derry. On August 31st the Community of thirteen years is being officially 'commissioned' by Bishop Hegarty. Tomas began the interview by asking Fr Carlin about the community.
