Why Hope?: Many people find it difficult to have any hope at all in the face of the many difficulties confronting them individually and facing society as a whole.  Fr. Alive-O:  When the country's primary schools reopened at the start of September, junior infant pupils were introduced to a new religion programme, Alive-O, the first presentation  of the Children of God series in over a decade. At a time when the Catholic Church's image with regard to children has been badly tarnished, Alive-O is a positive statement of the Church's commitment to children. Maura Hyland, author of the programme talked to Lorcan Brennan about the introduction of Alive-O and about the importance of parents and teachers working together in the area of faith formation.

Children's Bill:   The Government is currently working on The Children's Bill, which will deal with all children's justice issues. This Bill  has not yet been published, although some elements of it have been leaked to the media. The main points of the Bill are: 1. The introduction of a curfew for young people charged with criminal offences. 2. The raising of the age of criminal responsibility from 7 to 10 years. This will be reviewed periodically, until it has been raised to 12 years. 3. This Bill will apply to all children under 18 who have committed offences. 4. The introduction of a new children's court which will deal with all issues arising from the Child Care Act. 5. The attendance of a child's parents or guardians in court.

Fr. Peter McVerry, SJ, has worked with homeless children and children who have committed criminal offences for many years. He spends much of his time in the Children's Court offering support to both children and families. Elaine Comerford asked him what his concerns  about the forthcoming Bill are.

Michael O'Carroll, CSSp.  Last year, the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith issued a notification to the world's Bishops, asking them not to promote or encourage Vassula and concluding that her writings were not heavenly revelations, but merely private meditations.  Vassula was in Dublin recently and she spoke to Martin Browne.
