AMERICAN HISTORY X

American History X Directed by Tony Kaye (1997).

American History X is powerful film dealing with the evil of racism.
Danny, played by Edward Furlong, idolises his older brother Derek, an intelligent young man whose racist opinions and lifestyle has led to his imprisonment after the brutal murder of a black youth. With Derek in prison Danny continues to fly a flag of white power unaware that his brother has undergone a transformation of views and attitude incarcerated among inmates of many races and beliefs and upon release intent on renouncing his past ways.
But Danny's behaviour has led him into a very dangerous situation and Derek must battle to save his baby brother from the trap of hatred that he himself has instigated. Can he convince Danny of the errors of his ways before it is too late ?
Edward Norton delivers a very strong performance in this amazing film, even bulking up his normally slim frame with diet and exercise to achieve an impressive physique. The supporting cast is excellent, especially Edward Furlong and the film presents a powerful message concerning the ultimate rewards in chosing violence as a way of life.
