MONTY PYTHON'S LIFE OF BRIAN

The Life Of Brian Directed by Terry Jones (1979).
Written by and starring Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin.

In Judea, a boy is born around the same time as Jesus Christ. Three wise men believe he is the Messiah, but it becomes apparent that he is only Brian.

Judea, where Brian grows up is seething with discontent under Roman rule and there are many Jewish revolutionary groups. Brian is attracted by the charms of a feminist called Judith and joins the People's Front of Judea, who are devoted to the destruction of the Roman Empire.

He becomes involved in a raid on Pilate's palace and is captured but manages to escape. During his persuit he improvises as a prophet and accidentally attracts many followers who become convinced that he is the Messiah.

Monty Python's Life Of Brian is an extremely irreverent comedy which although it doesn't set out to be, still manages to offend many people. The film is really just a collection of very funny sketches but in some places, especially here in Ireland the subject matter was deemed so unsuitable that the film was banned for many years.

Also worth mentioning is another film; Monty Python and the Holy Grail, in which the Python team play King Arthur and his knights in their search for the infamous chalice.
