Directed by Steven Soderbergh (1998).
Out of Sight is a totally 'hip' film and this adaptation
of yet another Elmore Leonard story shows how pulp fiction show be properly translated to the big screen.
George Clooney plays charming bank robber Jack Foley who's prison breakout brings him into contact
with fiesty federal marshall Karen Sisco, played by a very impressive and believable Jennifer Lopez.
Foley is smitten by the sultry Sisco and wonders how things would turn out if they met under
more law-abiding circumstances. Sisco, we find out, has a history of attraction to the wrong-kind-of-guy,
and so the scene is set for a cat chase mouse chase cat senario as Sisco joins the FBI task force
tracking Foley and his comrades. But if she does catch him will she turn him in or what...
There is a genuine chemistry between the two leading players and the supporting cast is excellent
with Ving Rhames as the dependable side-kick Buddy, Albert Brooks as the spineless yet financially
ruthless Dick (The Ripper) Ripley, Don Cheadle as the diminutive but scary Maurice (Mad Dog) Miller
and Steve Zahn as Glenn Micheals, the con with the heist idea who quickly finds himself in over his head.
The music is suitably atmospheric and combines a wonderful original score by David Holmes with
70's soul funk selections. This along with
Scott Frank's adaptation of the book and Steve Soderbergh's direction complete the team behind this
hugely entertaining film.
