Biography

Achim Liebold started photography when he was 15 years of age, earning his first wage with theatre photography. For eight years he then portrayed the international music scene. During these years he also studied Photo and Film Design. At 22 years of age he started working as a freelance fashion photographer for Bertelsmann Media, for whom he photographed hundreds of fashion spreads and covers. At 26 he moved to New York and two years later to Paris, working mainly in fashion, beauty and advertising photography as well as portraying celebrities.

Achim Liebold lives now in Ireland. With a different pace and a matured view, his photographs are simple and powerful. Joan Martucci wrote about his work:

"Only great photographers are great artists in their field. They do not just record a moment in time. Their passion expresses a dimension of life that is just beyond the five senses. Thus any great work of art is timeless: it transcends time and place.

To appreciate Achim Liebold's photographs, you have to look beyond the obvious to see what is reflected in these mirrors of human existence. He is presenting us with photographs which could only be produced by a photographer who has moved beyond the use of his skill in a mechanistic or egotistical way. His portraits give a vivid description of the person being portrayed and of all that he himself is."
