Cancellations due to FMD

GAA: The GAA has confirmed that following ongoing discussions with the Department of Agriculture and the continuous monitoring of the Foot & Mouth situation, it was decided to postpone the AIB All Ireland Club Football Final and the replay of the Club Hurling Semi Final until next month, at a date to be decided (the Club Finals were scheduled to take place on St. Patricks Day).

The Association has however decided to allow schools and colleges games take place from next weekend and Club games to take place from the weekend of 24th and 25th March, with Intercounty games resuming on 31st March/1st April.

All Camogie fixtures and Ladies' Football games are also off, as are all inter-county handball fixtures, juvenile and adult.
Kerry County Board has suspended all GAA activities in the county until further notice.
The Kildare and District Football League has cancelled all games until further notice. All meetings have also been cancelled and clubs are advised to also cancel all training sessions.

Soccer: The FAI has decided that FAI Cup, Eircom League, Junior and under-age matches at all levels, countrywide, will not go ahead.

Rugby:Ireland's Six Nations games against Scotland and England have been postponed until May. The IRFU has cancelled all rugby matches, without exception, including schools & all underage games.

Athletics: The World Cross-Country Championships, which had been due to take place in Dublin later this month will now be staged in Brussels on the 24th and 25th of March.
The Irish Universities Cross Country Championships due to be held at Belfield on Saturday 10th March, 2001, have been postponed.
The National AAI Juvenile Indoor Championships, which were due to be held next Saturday/Sunday 10th/11th March in Nenagh, have been postponed until further notice.
The All Ireland Schools Hill Running Championship due to take place on the 14th of March at St Columba's College, Dublin has been postponed until further notice due to the foot and mouth scare.

Swimming: Water Safety/Life-saving classes in Enniscorthy on Saturday night is canceled. Classes will recommence on Sat March 24th, providing the situation has improved. Any queries to Aine on 087 2871670. Wexford Water Safety wishes to apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Horses: All Irish horse-racing is suspended until further notice and all UK racing is suspended until next Wednesday. The Cheltenham Racing festival due to take place next week has been abandoned but may be rescheduled for April.
Dressage Ireland competitions in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland are cancelled.

Motorsport: The West Cork Rally to be held in Clonakilty on March 17/18 has been cancelled.
Rathfriland Motor Club has cancelled the Kilbroney stages of the Rally 2001. Other activities such as track days have been suspended until further notice.

Tennis: The annual East Cork Open Tennis Championship sponsored by Royal & SunAlliance has been postponed until further notice to co-operate with the Governments request to restrict unnecessary travel in light of the present Foot & Mouth situation.
The Tennis Championship was scheduled to run from Friday March 16th to Monday March 19th 2001 at the Lower Aghada Tennis & Sailing club.

Basketball: Irish Basketball's National Competitions Committee (NCC) have decided to abandon the 2000/2001 ESB League season due to the continuing Foot & Mouth crisis.

Community Games: ESB Community Games have asked all counties to cancel all games and activities until further notice.

Karate: Irish Open Karate Championships due to be held on 11 March in Thurles has been cancelled.
The Irish Karate Union has cancelled their National Karate Championships, which were due to be held in Clonmel on Sunday 11th March.

Walking: Ardara Walking Festival, Ardara, County Donegal 17-19 March has been cancelled.

Hockey: On the advice of the Irish Sports Council and the Sports Council for Northern Ireland the Irish Hockey Association has informed all its Branches and Schools that there should be no competitive hockey in Ireland until after Sunday 25th March 2001. The situation will be reviewed on Monday 26th March 2001.

Diving: Irish Underwater Council's Dive Ireland conference in Sligo on 10/11 March has been cancelled

Rowing: The Irish Amateur Rowing Union has cancelled the Head of the River Race, scheduled for Galway on 18 March.

Table Tennis: The Senior, U21 and Veterans Interprovincial Championships have been cancelled. The event was to be held at the University of Ireland in Galway and is the most important domestic event of the season. The National Championships in Newtownabbey, Co.Antrim were cancelled last week. The crisis will draw many of the scheduled international events in to doubt as well, and will have a devastating effect on the rest of the Irish table tennis season. The ITTA will endeavour to reschedule some of the events but with such a busy calendar it is unlikely that all will be accomodated.

Scouting: Scouting Ireland has suspended all outdoor activities. The Irish Girl Guides has suspended all outdoor activities.

Angling: The Irish Federation of Sea Anglers have cancelled all Sea Angling competitions throughout the 32 Counties. All national and Provincial fixtures are cancelled until further notice, clubs are also asked to cancel local events.
The Trout Anglers Federation of Ireland meeting on 11 March has been cancelled.

Caving: The body representing cavers, the SUI, has told its members to stay away from the countryside until further notice and have cancelled planed rescue training events.

Mountaineering: The Mountaineering Council of Ireland has instructed all its members to stay away from the countryside. All Scottish Winter Mountaineering, Hillwalking, and Canoeing courses at Tiglin, The National Mountain & Whitewater Centre in County Wicklow have either been deferred or cancelled.

Models: Cork Model Aero club has suspended all flying activity until further notice.

Shooting: National Target Shooting Association of Ireland has postponed this year's National Championships, due to take place in Dublin on 10/11 March.

Entertainment

St Patrick's Day Parades on Saturday 17 March have been so far been cancelled in Dublin, Dundalk, Bray, Armagh, Limerick, Cork, Kilcock, Greystones, Aclare in Co Sligo and Fermoy. The Ancient Order of Hibernians parade in Magherafelt in South Derry has also been cancelled.

Theatre: 41st annual West Cork Drama Festival scheduled for 8-18 March has been cancelled.
The upcoming production of Doctor Dolittle at the Point from 2 May - 19 May has been postponed.
The Drama League of Ireland has announced that it will refund the cost of Licences to perform to all drama groups who are affected by the cancellation of the All Ireland Festival Circuit. Festivals now cancelled or postponed include:
Ballinamore, Castleblayney, Cavan, Charleville, Cork West, Clare West, Claremorris, Glenamaddy, Gorey, Kerry,Kildare, Kilmuckridge, Kiltyclogher, Mountmellick, Rathangan, Shercock,West Waterford and Wexford Drama Festivals.
The Brewery Lane Theatre has cancelled its forthcoming tour.

Dance: The 22nd annual Feis Mháigh Life Irish Dancing section arranged for March 17th and 18th has been cancelled.
The Set Dancing weekend in Pontoon Bridge Hotel, Pontoon, Co Mayo, on this coming weekend, March 9th to 11th, has been cancelled.

Exhibitions: The Irish Marine Federation Boat Show, due to take place at the RDS, 7 - 11 March, has been postponed.
The Irish Patchwork Society exhibition, entitled 'Reflections', due to open in the County Museum, Dundalk on 7th March 2001, has been postponed until further notice.
The Oireachtas Art Exhibition, which was scheduled to open in The County Hall, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dubin, on Tuesday, March 13th (to run until March 21st) has been cancelled until further notice.
Sligo's Model Arts Centre announced that its official opening has been postponed.

Recreation: 2000 All-Ireland Sheep Shearing Championships scheduled for 3, 4 June, has been cancelled.
Cappanalea Outdoor Education Centre and Killarney National Park Education Centre has ceased all outdoor adventure/education activities.
Ardara Walking Festival, Ardara, County Donegal 17, 19 March 2001 has been cancelled.

Public Service

Courts: All High Court sittings which involve people travelling to Dublin from abroad or from the country are postponed until further notice.

Parties: Sinn Féin Ard Fheis, which was scheduled to take place in Dublin this weekend, has been postponed. A half-day conference for delegates and Dublin members will be held this Saturday.
Fianna Fáil HQ has requested that all meetings of the Organisation be postponed.
All Fianna Fáil activity in Longford will stop until further notice.
The Workers' Party has announced the indefinite postponement of its annual Northern Ireland Conference which was due to be held at Belfast's Wellington Park Hotel next Saturday (10th March).

Services: The ESB has postponed all non-emergency line work until further notice.
The Geological Survey of Ireland has ceased its field operations.
Bohernabreena Reservoir is closed to the public until further notice.
The Organic Trust has postponed indefinitely the on-farm inspection of organic producers in Ireland, North and South. Office procedures and certification continue. All face-to-face meetings have been cancelled. Essential meetings are accommodated by teleconferencing.
ODAS (the Organic Development & Advisory Service) has cancelled all farm visits until further notice.

Media: RTÉ has cancelled its public meeting at the Grand Hotel in Malahide on 13 March.

Organisations: The Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals shelter will be closed to the public.

Defence: The Defence Forces have cancelled all field exercises.
Galway's Civil Defence Officers have cancelled all activities.

Politics: Fianna Fáil HQ has requested that all meetings of the Organisation be postponed.

Unions: IMPACT branches have deferred all meetings.
The Irish Medical Organisation has postponed all IMO committee, regional, local and junior doctors hospital information meetings for the next two weeks.
The MSF Union has postponed all its meetings for this month.
The Associated Craft Butchers of Ireland has postponed all meetings and training events.
The Teachers' Union of Ireland (TUI) is cancelling or postponing all meetings until further notice.
The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) has announced that its Annual Congress to be held in Ennis, Co. Clare from the 19th to the 23rd of March has been postponed.

Education: The Centre for Adult Continuing Education, University College, Cork has cancelled all its out-reach classes and tutorials in counties Cork, Kerry, Tipperary, Limerick, Waterford, Wexford, Meath, Kilkenny and Dublin until Tuesday, March 20th when the situation will be further reviewed.
National Parents Council-Primary cancellations are as follows: NPC Cadbury Challenge National Final and County Trials All Adult education classes in Dunshaughlin Community College are cancelled until further notice.
Ógra Fianna F´il has urged Third Level students not to travel.
The South West Regional Authority has postponed its conference entitled "Education and the Information Age", which was to have been held in Cork on the 22nd and 23rd of March.
The NUI Conferring of Honorary Degrees, arranged for Dublin Castle on Tuesday, 20 March, 2001 will be postponed until further notice.
The National Parents' Council - Primary is cancelling the following meetings of the Board of Management Training: Wexford Centre Mile House Rd, Wexford March 24 Abbeycourt Hotel, Nenagh, Tipperary March 24 Kilcoran lodge hotel, Cahir, Tipperary March 24 Kildare Education Centre, Kildare March 31 Waterford Education Centre, Waterford, March 31
The watersafety / lifesaving classes in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford on Saturday night is cancelled. Classes will recommence on Sat March 24th providing the scare is over.

Religion: The annual St Patrick's Day pilgrimage to Máméan in Connemara has been cancelled.
The Church of Ireland has cancelled all Central Church meetings this month at Church of Ireland House.
Presbyterian congregations are being advised to take precautions appropriate to their area; church events have been cancelled in some places.

Business: Vintners Federation of Ireland meetings have been postponed in Counties Carlow, Offaly, Donegal and Longford. The VFI Annual Dinner Dance in County Waterford has been postponed and other functions due to take place all around the country are currently being deferred until a later date.
The Athy Sunday Market in County Kildare has been called off.
The Irish Auctioneers & Valuers Institute (IAVI), has announced that its 2001 Annual conference, scheduled for Mount Brandon Hotel, Tralee, County Kerry from March 29th to April 1st has been postponed.

Recreation: All Caravan Club Rallies planned for the period up to the end of March are cancelled.
The Dublin Naturalists' Field Club outings have been cancelled.
National Youth Federation has cancelled all national events and meetings.
Foroige requests all clubs cease meeting until further notice.
The National Youth Organisation has postponed all events.
Scouting Ireland and the Irish Girl Guides has suspended all outdoor activities.
The Irish Countrywomen's Association has cancelled all meetings of the organisation.
RTÉ has cancelled its public meeting in the Grand Hotel in Malahide on 13 March.
All regional finals of the National Public speaking project run by the Mental Health Association of Ireland have been deferred.
The President's Gaisce Award have cancelled the 'Venture Night' scheduled for Dublin Castle on 6 March.
AOIFE, the Association of Irish Festival Events, had cancelled seminars at 23 venues in the coming weeks.
The Roundfort sale of work will be cancelled until further notice.

Organisations: Cooperation Ireland is recommending people to postpone all cross-border exchanges for the next two weeks.
All meetings and practices of Coolaney Macra have been cancelled until further notice.
All the meetings for members of Family Homes of Ireland, a Bed & Breakfast organisation, are cancelled.
The Irish Foster Care Association (Athlone/Moate Branch) meeting for foster carers in Longford, Westmeath, Laois and Offaly planned for Tuesday 13th March has been postponed until further notice.

Notices are being posted at all heritage sites, owned or operated by the Department, requesting visitors not to enter these sites in order to minimise the risks associated with this disease.

In Dublin, Kilmainham Gaol, the Casino Marino, the National Botanic Gardens, St. Stephen's Green and the Phoenix Park will remain open. However, Dúchas is asking people not to visit these sites as far as possible for the moment.

Public tours have been cancelled at Áras an Uachtaráin, Dublin Castle and Government buildings.
