MINIBALL

In our school miniball started in October. Mr. Forde was the referee and there were six teams from Fourth, Fifth and Sixth classes. Mr. Forde picked the teams and tried to make them even. The teams were given the names Team A to Team F and each team had six players. A team scored a point by touching the ball to a line on the ground. If a team won they got three points and if they scored more than ten points, the team got a bonus point. No substitutes were allowed. Each game lasted for ten minutes with a change of ends after five minutes.

Rules

A player could not run or step with the ball. As soon as a player caught the ball he/she had to pass it to a teammate. A player could only block with the arms and hands straight. Each player had to keep both feet on the ground at all times. If these rules were broken, a free throw would be given to the opposing team. The referee’s word was final.

The League

The games were played at lunchtime and if a team was not ready they would be disqualified and the opposing team would be given a point. This did not happen in our league. Some players out of Fifth class did not play and this meant that some teams had only five players. A part of the yard was reserved for miniball and other people could not play there. The league was great sport. Team F won the competition.
