BALLINAMERE N.S.

OUR SCHOOL

Ballinamere is situated three kilometres outside Tullamore in the very centre of Ireland. The school is surrounded by green fields, rolling woodlands and swift flowing rivers and canals.

There has been a school in this area since 1833. This was a hedge school owned by Darby Dunne. The first official school was Ballycowen school and about 40 children attended. When this school closed a new school opened in Ballykilmurray in 1910. This is now the community centre. It started as a one room school with a partition to divide it into two classrooms. Between fifty and seventy children attended the school. The playground was divided into two, one for the girls and one for the boys.

Our school was built in 1966. We have 215 pupils and 7 teachers.

The pupils in this school like to play football, hurling and camogie our national games. We also enjoy netball, swimming and athletics. We have been area champions on many occasions.

We have a school band and a school choir. Soon we hope to have our new school gym completed.

We start school at 9.20 in the morning and finish at 3.00 in the afternoon. We think our school is brilliant.
