The first thing we noticed strange was that the electricity had been cut and candles lit the entire house. The late Mr. Marble, himself, built the manor. He had passed away a few years later. All this had happened in the Tudor times were it is said Mr. Marble had worked as a merchant and had later become the mayor of the town. The house was located in the north of England. "Somewhere around Norwich," our leader had told us.
"Richie," was what my friends always called me but my real name is Richard. During the first few days of our stay at Marble we had met a friend from the cottage next door. He had introduced himself as Ian, a boy of eleven with a blond complexion. He wasnt allowed in the grounds of Marble Manor but had sometimes slipped under the fence. He had told us this morning to meet him down in the garden after tea. It was after tea now and my friends, Mark, Sean and I where running down to the garden shed. As we ran through the door we noticed Ian sitting on a stool eating a sweet. After a round of greetings we all sat down. "What have you got to tell us?" I asked him. There came a pause then "Do you believe in ghosts!" We shook our heads in disbelief but Ian protested. "I do," he said "Ive seen one, here at Marble Manor. I think Its the ghost of the late Mr. Marble, a figure dressed in white robes and a white beard. He appears every Halloween so I wouldnt be surprised if you saw him to night as tonight is Halloween night. A few minutes before his death way back in the Tudor times his maid heard a scream coming from his room. When she entered she saw Mr. Marbles body lying on the ground and a figure in white robes floating through a wall. The ghost was never heard of since until a few years back I saw him standing beside the great oak tree out in the garden." After a while we bid farewell and left. I didnt believe Ian but my friends seemed pretty shaken up after what he had said.
That night we prepared a bonfire and held a Halloween party. Our leader was pretty good at telling ghost stories. We also let off some fireworks. When the bonfire died out I decided to retire for the night. I slept in a room in the old manor, which overlooked the great oak tree. I leaped into bed and cuddled into the quilts. Everything got cold and I could smell a most horrible smell. Suddenly the windows flew open and the curtains blew in the wind. I cautiously peeped up over the blankets. I saw a shocking sight, through the window a figure dressed in white robes with a white beard could be seen standing beside the great oak tree! "The spook of Marble Manor!" I gasped. Suddenly something grabbed me and carried me towards the ghost. I struggled in intense horror but the invisible force kept on making me go towards the ghost.
"Come here,"the ghost kept telling me. I got near and nearer until I was right up to the ghost. I tried to scream but my lips seemed frozen. Suddenly the ghost took my hand and said:
