The Coleman’s are another dedicated family who are interested in keeping the memory of our forefathers alive and active members on the committee in Bandon.

Andrew was the first chairman and undertook many tasks to bring the organisation to where it is today. He travelled on a number of occasions to Belgium and The Somme also on “A Journey of Reconciliation “ as a member of that trust.

On the 3^rd Sept. 2001, two members of the committee again went to Flanders and The Somme, Barry Ellis our elected tour expert and guide, Ann Madden nee Coleman and her brother David. This was David’s first trip and Ann’s second .All the popular places were visited, Menin Gate, Peace Park etc.

Also seen was the grave of the youngest soldier killed in W.W.1. He was Pte. J.Condon aged 14, buried in the Commonwealth War Grave cemetery at Poelkapelle. This is a 25 mins. by bus from the Square in Ieper [YPRES]. Ann laid a wreath there on behalf of the committee. Another interesting site visited was Essex Farm bunker dressing station; here was the place where the Canadian Medical Officer Colonel John McCrae wrote his famous poem “ In Flanders Fields”.
