Bandon War Memorial Committee
Book
Through
continued research, the list of those who died from the
local area substantially increased to up to 200. The book
was compiled and contained all relevant information,
including the listing of all who died in those
conflicts. This booklet took considerable time through
research of old records, of regiments, church bodies and
old documents. It was with the printers in Feb.1997 to
be published in April.
The
then Taoiseach John Bruton T.D. had been in
communication with the committee and expressed his full
support in the project and wished to visit the Memorial.
To coincide with his visit we had the book launch.
In
April 19 97 An Taoiseach John Bruton T.D. visited Bandon
and attended our book launch. He was presented with the
first
copy by Vincent Holland, father of the late John to whom
the book was dedicated and a presentation was made by
the Hon. President of the Committee, George Duke. Also an exhibition of old
photographs, medals, war souvenirs donated by relatives
and friends were held in conjunction with the launch.
The Memorial was also visited at this time.
The general public were invited and especially the students of our post primary schools to view the exhibition.
