ABOUT US

During the course of Bernadette's career which extends some 25 years, she has worked for clients in Ireland, England, America and France. Having previously gained a Diploma in Horticulture at Termonfeckin Horticultural College, Co. Louth and a Certificate in Garden Design at the English Gardening School, Chelsea Physic Gardens, London, she now enjoys an outstanding reputation as a consultant in garden design.

About Us

Her knowledge and feel for plants and design, accumulated over the years, reflect her sentiment that the design should always fit the site and that gardens need to reflect the character of the owner and the house, not the designer. She has the unique ability to translate this into direct practical advice.

Early in her career, she was fortunate to have worked with Lanning Roper, an American who became captivated by the landscape and gardens of England, Scotland and Ireland. The majority of his important work was in period gardens and landscapes in England, for private owners and National Trust.

Bernadette was introduced to the late Mr. Roper when she worked for his friend, the late Mrs. Dorothy Jobling-Purser in her garden in Bunclody, Co. Wexford, where under his guidance she helped to create a garden to accomodate their favourite plants, trees and structures in combinations to splendid effect.

Fees

	Through her work with Lanning, she was given the position as head gardener at Bagnor Manor in Berkshire, England. Here Bernadette was involved in the restoration of the gardens at the manor for Lord and Lady Palumbo. During her several years at Bagnor, Bernadette also travelled to Illnois and Pennsylvania. Here began her work in America.
	In America, she was involved in the planting of a wild flower garden in the grounds of the famous Farnsworth House, Plano, Illnois, designed by Mies van der Rohe. In late Spring each year, she continues to travel to oversee the development and maintenance of this breathtaking garden. In Pennsylvania, Bernadette worked on the gardens for Lord Palumbo at Kentuck Knob.
	Bernadette has shared her wonderful gift of being able to express the art of composing gardens by design with hundreds of clients in Ireland. Her creations are inspired by her clients. She listens and discovers as much as she can from them. Her garden design company, based in Wexford, is located in the beautiful grounds of her garden. In August 1998, Bernadette opened her garden to the public as a design centre,where borders, vistas, water features and formal patterns have evolved.
