Autumn 1998
Birdbath
By Leonard Melfi

Birdbath, by Leonard Melfi, deals with the relationship between Frankie, a poet in his late 20s, and Velma, a nervous and troubled twenty-something waitress. Birdbath was first presented by Theatre Genesis at St Mark's Church-in-the Bowery, New York City in June 1965. The action takes place in New York City in the course of a single February night. The play was directed by Alan Curry with the following cast.

Frankie Basta .................Colin Walsh

Velma Sparrow ................ Aine O'Malley

Birdbath was chosen to represent us in the 1998 one-act festivals. Unfortunately, we didn't qualify for the All-Ireland finals but we won Manorhamilton outright and picked up a number of acting and directing awards.
