Romeo and Juliet

This production was very unique on a number of fronts. This is the first occasion that we have jointly presented a show with another group and we were delighted to join with our friends ands colleagues from the Leixlip Musical and Variety Group in this venture. It is also the first time, to our knowledge, that a major Shakespeare play has been attempted in Leixlip. We also changed venues for this play by staging it in the 'round' at the Ozone (Ryevale Tavern). We are again indebted to the Hannigan family for the opportunity to stage a classic play in this highly unusual - indeed unique - venue for theatre. We were also delighted to have as our Director Pat Burke, who has many years experience behind him, including many classics with the Dublin Shakespeare Society. Pat has a special affection for Romeo and Juliet, which he sees as a timeless tale, with countless parallels throughout history. This tale of star-crossed lovers could - and does - happen all the time, in areas of conflict all over the world, where young peoples only fault is that they fall in love with the wrong person. Or, more to the point, with someone from the wrong side
