One thousand years ago, Brian Ború is High King of Ireland.
We are travelling from Bodyke to Tuamgraney to join Brian's army.
Brian Ború is from Killaloe. We have visited one of the ringforts belonging to his family, which is called Béal Ború. Brian's mother was killed by Viking raiders, and Brian has spent many years fighting the Vikings.
Brian often visits his brother Marcán who is abbot of Tuamgraney monastery and also of Inis Cealtra.
We have designed and painted our banners, which will lead us in our march in Brian Ború's army, to the sound of pipe and drum.
Marcán awaits his brother at the door of the church. Built in 950, Brian has stepped through this doorway many times in his life, and a thousand years later we step through the same doorway.
Brian arrives at the church. We loudly pledge our support to him.
We watch a fight, which is settled by Brian. We visit the blacksmith's, the weaver's, the jeweller's, the felt-maker's - and we see our first Viking game being played.

The schoolchildren gathered in Tuamgraney church to hear about the Viking warriors who attacked the monasteries of Clare and many other parts of Ireland.
The monastery of Tuamgraney was attacked at least twice.
As the children were listening carefully to what was being said, there was suddenly crashing and banging and shouting.
Fierce Vikings wearing helmets and chainmail, and armed with swords and shields and battle-axes, burst in.
With much violence they made off with the strongest of the children.
The children were later seen at the slave market and it took the intervention of a strong chieftain to prevent their sale as slaves.
