Masonite League Division 1A

Bornacoola 2-13 St. Marys 0-14

Bornacoola maintained their 100% record in the 2000 league when they defeated St Mary's in a most entertaining Masonite Division 1A game in Dromod on Saturday, April 22nd.

Two first half goals, both converted by Bornacoola full forward Mark Mc Closkey, were the key moments in a game full of fast and free flowing football. The first, the result of a long through ball saw Mc Closkey fist the ball over the head of Darren Glancy in the Carrick goals.

The second, in the fifteenth minute was an opportunist goal firmly planted in the bottom left hand corner which gave the Bors a seven point lead. The ever threatening John Crowe was St. Mary's star player and a succession of points from both frees and play from the Marys full forward meant there were only four points in it at the break:- 2-5 to 0-7.

With substitute Brendan Guckian to the fore in the second half Carrick made the Bors fight all the way as the sides traded point for point throughout. Carrick might have had a goal when a well struck shot from Ivan Keaney went just over the bar. However, they had a let off when a late Pat Farrell shot came off the underside of the crossbar and back into play with just moments left on the clock.
