28th January	Tai Chi Tai Chi classes with Charlie Shovlin are being held in the Heritage Centre every Thursday at 7pm. Beginners welcome. Basic Computer Course Applications are invited for a Basic Computer Course, which will also include research on local heritage. This is a local training initative course sponsored by FAS. St. Bridget's Night A night of Cross Making will be held in the Central Bar on Wednesday 31st January, commencing at 9:00pm. Supper served at 10:00pm. Music by Peter Oliver Trio. This is a Parish Council Fund Raising Event. Admission £3.00. Badminton Badminton has resumed in the Community Centre. It starts at 10:30pm every Monday night. Everybody welcome.


25th January	Declan wins £8,000 Well done to Declan Breslin, who now lives in Rooskey, Creeslough. Declan won £8,000 on last Saturday, 20th January National Winning Streak TV game show held in RTE.

		Graduate Leonard Gildea who recently graduated from Trinity College, Dublin with an Honorary degree in Construction Economics. Leonard is the son of Teresa and Neily Gildea, Kentucky, Ardara and is currently employed with A.J. McCaul Ltd. Sligo.

21st January	Day Care Centre Ardara Day Care Centre re-opens on Tuesday 23rd January at 2:00pm. The usual bus service is available to collect those who wish to be present. New members are welcome. There is a chiropody service available once a month. For further particulars call Breda at 41246. Night Classes A range of Night Classes are starting in the Comprehensive School, Glenties soon. Classes are available in Basic Computing Skills; Reflexology; Intermediate Level Computing; French (Spoken and Written); Pottery and Ceramics; Yoga; Upholstery. 		Young Scientist 2001 We congratulate the children from the Parish who were involved in the prize winning entry in the Chemistry; Mathematical and Physical Junior Group Section of the Young Scientist of the Year 2001. Their project on Coastel Erosion won first prize in their section. Well done!
	Car Boot & Cake Sale There will be a Car Boot & Cake Sale in the Dolmen Centre, Kilclooney, on Sunday 28th January from 12 noon to 5pm. Stalls will be available. Contributions to the Cake Sale will be greatly appreciated.

	Dearcadh - a year's reading By Peter Campbell The latest annual with an Ardara View - Dearcadh 2000-2001 - should satisfy the reading needs of the locals well into the new year.
	The annual has 144 pages packed with up to 80 articals and countless photos relating to local and not so local issues. The book also has a full review of the area in every aspect of life - a year when they lost one of their editorial board in Padraig S.Mac aGhoill. There is also, naturally, joyful reflection on their Gaelic football team winning the championship and league double, but more than anything Dearcadh's aim is to reflect anything which might be of interest to the general area. In the editor's words: "Dearcadh provides a vehicle for our writers and a source of information, entertainment and intellectual thirst for our readers. They are mutually interdependant. The future direction of Dearcadh will largely depend on the interests and submissions received. We pray God's blessings on all our writers and readers until we address you in next year's Dearcadh." Indeed, this year's offering includes pictures and editorial on the retirement from teaching of one of the editorial board, Eddie O'Donnell. Now with more time on his hands and with the annual free from any restrictions, it is likely that plans are being hatched, even at this stage, for next year's offering.

	Car tax offence Conal Gildea, Glenconnall, was fined £180 for having no tax on his vehicle on May 25th 2000 at Edrimglebe, Donegal Town. The court heard that the defendant had since disposed of the vehicle but had failed to pay back tax due.

11th January	Foroige Ardara Foroige clubs would like to thank everyone who supported their recent fund raising bazaar, especially those who collected prizes for raffles and bingo. They would also like to thank all the local business's who donated items. On Saturday 23rd December a group of our club members performed the mummers throughout the town. £350 was raised, half of which was donated to the Friends of the mentally handicapped for the Wood Road Centre. Thanks to Jack Maguire who taught the children the rhymes also to Breda Boyle and Beth Herron who made the costumes. Club activities resume on Wednesday 17th January. Anyone willing to become a leader?? Your help is badly needed so come along and enjoy a few hours with the talented youth of our community. Late Mr H.T. Boyd The local community were deeply saddened at the death of Hugh Thomas Boyde, Drimmitten, Loughros Point, which occured on the 11th December last at his son's residence. Deceased lived all his life in Loughros Point and worked the family farm. He was also a talented hand loom weaver and worked for Magee's of Donegal for many years. The large and representative attendance at the wake and funeral service in Ardara Methodist Church which was conducted by Rev.Kingston, Rev.Weir and Rev.Henderson who also officiated at the graveside in Kilcashel, afforded an indication of the esteem in which deceased and his family are held. Readings were by his grand daughters Fiona Boyd and Donna Alcorn. He is survived by his wife Bella, sons, Bertie (Mountcharles) Alan (London) Edwin and Noel Drimmitten; daughter Rena (Lettermacaward) sisters Rachel and Bella Ann, sixteen grandchildren, daughters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives to whom sympathy is extended. Planning to be halted Local people are incensed at the decision of Donegal County Council to go ahead with the proposed unaltered development of lands at Ard Connell despite the expressed wishes of the residents. When the plans for the development of the site were first published the residents met with senior officers from the Planning Department. An alternative to the proposed plan, which was also shown, was agreed. There was plenty of room for a stepped development plan similar to the one recently completed at Drimaghy Park and whic would not have interfered with the beautiful view from Ard Connell where many visitors come every year to admire the view of Loughros Point, Loughros Mor Bay, Loughros Beg Bay, Leaconnell, Maghera, Granny Glen and Sliebe a Thoey Mountain and to take photographs of this breathtaking scenery. The natives have striven for many years to improve the appearance of Ard Connell Estate and went to great lenghts to secure the stone and workmanship to remove many overgrown sod ditches and shrubbery and replace them with beautiful stone walls now admired by all. While everyone is agreed that housing and other local development is essential for the area this could quite easily be done on this site without desecrating the natural beauty of the place. The residents are determined to halt work on this site until the planning authorities come to their senses.

		Graduate Neil Gallagher, eldest son of Neily & Patricia Gallagher, Glengesh, who recently graduated from UCG Galway with a B.Sc. degree in Science. Neil received his early education at Crannogbui N.S. Brackey N.S. and St. Columba's Comprehensive School, Glenties.
