Fact	Why do we call a repetition of something long in its entirety, the whole megillah? Baby boomers may recall that Magilla Gorilla was a TV cartoon show that ran for a few years in the mid-1960s. The “whole” of the title character was quite substantial. Well, sorry, there’s no simian source for this expression, although Magilla may have come from megillah because it alliterates with “gorilla.” Anyway, we wouldn’t want to monkey with the Bible, from which the word megillah does come. Megillah means scroll in Hebrew. In this context, it refers to the Book of Esther in the Old Testament, which is read in its entirety during the Jewish holiday of Purim.
