On the 8th September, 1968, the centenary of the brothers coming to Callan, the then Bishop of Ossory, the late Dr. Peter Birch, in the presence of President de Valera,
many priests and religious, the Superior Generals and Provincials of the Christian Brothers, Presentation Brothers and Patrician Brothers and many brothers from all over the country together with a gathering of about 3000 friends from Callan and surrounding areas, blessed and laid the foundation stone for the Memorial Chapel and monastery in Westcourt. The chapel has become an important centre of prayer in the locality.
