Kilkenny Co. Co. responds to Freedom of Information request

"Serving People - Preserving Heritage"  (Kilkenny County Council slogan)

The North Kilkenny Action Group wrote to Kilkenny County Council in June 2001 requesting information under the Freedom of Information Act . The following is a copy of the Council's response.

Re: Freedom of Information

A Chara

Thank you for your request under the Freedom of Information Act 1997.

Having carried out an initial assessment of the range of records covered by your request I note the fact that a very considerable number of documents will come within the terms of your request. I am obliged under the Freedom of Information Act 1997 to provide you with an estimate of the fee which will be due in respect of search and retrieval of records relating to your request. The basis for calculating the fee is the number of hours required to facilitate the Freedom of Information request based on a charge of £16.50 per hour together with copying costs. Due to the range of your request and the fact that documentation is contained in offices at locations in Kilkenny, Waterford, Dublin, Basingstoke, London and Telford, I estimate that the fee appropriate to you (sic) request would be in the region of £8,000. This fee is payable in advance.

In the interests of lessening the fee chargeable in relation to your request you may wish to limit the terms of your request in some way. I am available for consultation in this regard. You may contact me at 056-52699.

Mise, le meas,

J. Gibbons
