As a hunting lodge built in 1740 by Henry Petty, Rahan Lodge consisted of 3 stories over basement. Renovations began in 1803 with Denis O'Brien. Rahan Lodge became a Country Retreat. A further extension was added in 1950 to accommodate, then as now, the visiting Circuit Judges. The Land Commission sold the Lodge for the first time to a non-family member in 1967. The McDermott family become owner number 10 in 1987, and restored the Lodge to what you see to day. All the original floors have been polished throughout the house, and many of the windows are still intact.
