Clicking on the frog will bring you back to the top of the page.

During the month of January we observed the birds in our school yard and in the park opposite our school .

During Week 1 we saw very few birds, we were able to name the blackbird, thrush and rook. There were no small birds. This was due to a lack of food. The birds we saw were picking from the ground, looking under leaves. We decided that we would feed the birds in the park and in the school playground with seeds to see if we could attract any small garden birds.

Wednesday: We placed three bags of bird food in our school yard in the hope of seeing smaller garden birds. There were lots of thrushes hopping about the park looking for food.

Comments:

Monday: We discovered that the bird feeders in the park had been damaged and that all the food was gone. We are not sure what happened. The bags had been cut but there was no food on the ground. The jackdaws may have cut the bags to remove the food. We watched a bluetit eat from the feeder in the school yard today.

Tuesday: The weather is cold but dry. We saw lots of birds today. A greenfinch was eating from the feeder in the school yard today. There were lots of thrushes turning over leaves in the park to look for food.

Wednesday: The rooks were eating from the feeders and scaring away all other birds.A wagtail was walking around the playground. Two greenfinches came to the feeders.
