You can find Cavan No.1 at the junction of Abbey Street and Farnham St. Our school Principal is Miss Ann Reilly and her colleague is Mrs. Barbara Lidwill. There are 28 children currently on roll.

Our school crest is the owl. The owl was chosen for our school logo because the Irish word for an owl is ulchabhán and echoes An Cabhán meaning Cavan.

A school has existed on the site since the 1820's .The current school dates from 1876. The building consists of a school residence and two wings. At one time the wings contained a Boys School and a Girls School. The roll book shows girls enrolled since 1915 and boys since 1921.

In 1966 an extension consisting of a cloakroom and toilets were built. Until then the school had no running water and there were only outdoor toilets. At that time electric storage heaters were also installed.

In 1997 the classrooms were refurbished, oil fired heated was installed, and the cloakroom was converted to a staffroom.

An oak tree standing within the grounds is at least 200 years old
