Garden Diary Week 4
Early this week 6th
class put in some garlic thyme and coriander and repotted some basil plants
indoor. Much of the seed we sowed indoor a few weeks ago is now a nice size so
we replanted seedlings of rocket and lettuce in individual little pots. Pupils
from third class were shown how to do this and will look after these pots in
the coming weeks.
In the garden the potatoes
and onions are now on top and the potatoes will have to be earthed up in a day
or two. The cabbage plants are still being eaten despite our best efforts.
The spinach is growing very
well in the grow boxes beside Mr. O Frighil’s room
and his class are keeping an eye on progress of lettuce, onion seed and
radishes in those boxes also.
The weather is seasonal. Cold and blustery at times. Typical Scaraveen na gCuach weather i.e. the bad
spell of weather which coincides with the coming of the cuckoo, the last two
weeks of April and the first two weeks of May. Often two of those weeks would
be fine and two very broken or indeed sometimes the whole period can be cold
showery and windy.
