Linux Distributions
There are many distributions available and there are many ways to get each distribution. One of the easiest ways of getting a distribution is to purchase a book. This will also provided the necessary information to get started. Some books provide more than one distribution so that you can try out each one to find the one you like. I have always used the Redhat distribution.

Getting One
Below is a small list of the distributions that I know of. Most are free though you may have to pay for postage and packing, most can installed from CD-ROM, over a network or via FTP. For less than the price of upgrading from Win95 to Win98 you can get a Linux distribution. In at least one case, the greatest cost in purchasing Linux was having it delivered!

Check out the LinuxHQ website. It contains a lists of 50 (??) distributions. If you want to find a distribution of linux for the Palm Pilot, it's probably listed there.

Installation
If you are installing Linux for the first time it is advisable to get a book. It'll prove invaluable. The Redhat distribution provides an installation guide that is pretty good. Before starting the installation makesure to read through what will be done and find out what is required during the installation. Basically, just read the book.
