Clones developed from a 6th Century Monastic settlement founded by St. Tiernach and has many historic sites including a 9th Century Round Tower and Abbey.

The area is also reknowned for its coarse fishing, lace making, Victorian pleasure gardens and 18 hole golf course settled amongst the Monaghan Drumlins.

For those more adventurous, paintballing, rally driving and horse riding are also availalbe within a short distance.
