Guide to Youth Organisations for Young People and Volunteers
Introduction
This Guide to Youth Organisations for Young People and Volunteers has been produced by
the Cork Local Voluntary Youth Council to raise awareness of the number and variety of
youth organisations locally, and the many opportunities that exist for both young people
and volunteers to get actively involved.
Membership of a youth organisation provides the opportunity to meet new people, make
new friends as well as participate in a wide range of interesting and fun activities
giving you the chance to grow personally and develop new skills. With the variety of youth
organisations locally you're certain to find one to interest you.
Volunteers play a vital role in most youth organisations, working together as a team
running and administering miscellaneous youth programmes. The typical profile of a
volunteer would be a caring person with the energy and skills, time and commitment to
share with young people to help them grow and develop through various activities, and
enhance their lives. To foster and develop volunteerism most youth organisations have well
established and proven training and support programmes, particularly helpful for those
just starting out.
Whether potential member or volunteer this guide contains all the information you will
need to identify an organisation locally to suit your interests. We hope and trust that
you will find it an invaluable resource and provide you with the necessary impetus to get
involved and reap the rewards.
