Getting Better
InformationThe optimism of the lyrics came from a walk Paul took on Primrose Hill, London on the first sunny day of spring in 1967. Hearing himself describe the weather saying 'Its getting better' to journalist Hunter Davies, he started a song around this phrase. Hearing Paul writing the lyrics, John unhelpful put down 'It couldn't get much worse' was turned by Paul to his advantage, by incorporating it as a harmony vocal line. The wide range of instruments used in this song contribute to the illusion of an extremely complex song as each instrument compliments the next. This gives the impression of complexity, but the song actually has a simple F,C,G chord progression.
