This is a passage tomb at Tara, Co. Meath. It is called the mound of the Hostages and was built about the year 2500 B.C.

It was used for about 200 burials. The dead person was cremated and his/her ornaments were burnt with them, things like hair pins made from antlers and necklaces made from amber beads.

The food these people ate included wheat, sheep, goat and pig. Tombs like these are also found in Spain, Scandinavia and France.
