The Department planners have agreed to give us an extended general purpose hall (16.5 m X 14 m) and a computer room. Problem is, we will have to pay for the extension and the computer room out of our own resources as there will not be grant aided. We will come back to this issue in our next newsletter.
Thanks to the tremendous effort put in by Felicity Walsh and her dedicated band of walkers, the mini-marathon raised a magnificent total of IR£2,117 for the new School Fund. The PAC would like to extend their thanks to all for a job well done. We are told that great fun was had by all the walkers and plans are already afoot for a repeat this coming year. Interested? Contact the school and leave your name and address.
Those of you who shop in Quinnsworth may have noticed a sign saying that a contribution will be made to our school for every recycled bag used. The Manager, Betty Murphy, has confirmed that for every bag used the school will receive 1p. As we will have a rota of boys in Quinnsworth shortly pushing this effort we require as many recycled plastic bags as possible. Please note we are only seeking plastic grocery bags.
A number of pupils from Marino School attend classes with us each week. Some come for Art and P.E., sing in our choir and use the computer room. With the assistance of Principal Liam Walsh and teacher Śna McCabe from Marino, we hope to contribute to the growing awareness of the importance of creating a society which includes everyone. These pupils will be joining us for the recycling project at Quinnsworth.
Who says that Star Trek is the only place where people can be transported and materialised! Last week our internet connection did just that. As you well know we get E-Mail from all over the world as browsers see our Home Page. In late September a teacher Hannah Warren from Dublin, Georgia, USA came on us while teaching her class about Ireland as she was about to come here on a short holiday with her husband. On Tuesday, October 15th they called at the school having come straight from Dublin Airport. Having spoken with staff and pupils about their Dublin and their school, Hillcrest Elementary, then left letters from her pupils with us. We hope they enjoyed the remainder of their holiday as much as we enjoyed meeting them. Hannah even e-mailed her class from out computer room while she was here. How the world is shrinking!
We like to think that we have a very dedicated and committed group of teachers in St. Cronan's. As if to underline that, they have just spent the past four weeks doing an intensive after-school course on evaluation and assessment. We would like to commend them for their continued dedication and assure them of our fullest co-operation.
As all parents know our football coach Gordon can do no wrong as far as our boys are concerned. Perhaps some of you do not realise that it is through the good offices of Bray Emmets G.A.A. Club that Gordon can coach in Bray schools, both Primary and Post-Primary. Quite a number of our pupils play on their underage teams and attend their Summer Coaching Camps. As the senior team has reached the County Intermediate final (already drawn twice) we wish them and especially our own panel member and star - Mr. Barry every good wish for the replay.
No doubt you have been told that the pupils have been doing their Micra-T and Sigma-T tests over the last week in preparations for parent teacher meetings.
May we remind you once again that the teacher will meet you in Mr. Dodd's Office as he will be teaching the class that day. Please be aware that people may be waiting outside the door so don't delay the teacher unnecessarily.

The annual trip to Dephi for 5th Class pupils always creates fantastic memories fot the boys. We asked one of th eboys who travelled in September to share his memories with us. I think his account vividly captures the pace of the weekend and also the sheer enjoyment that was had.
On Friday 16th September 1996 we set off to Delphi. On the way we watched some videos, such as Danny Baker's Freak Football and Into the West. We stopped off in Swinford to play a Gaelic match (which we won, of course). I scored a goal but it was disqualified for no reason. then off again to Delphi. When we got there we went to the Hall and played Soccer. We were happy to have arrived. On the first night we kept the leaders busy. We stayed up all night and didn't get any sleep. (Well, John and I didn't, anyway). In the morning we went Hill Walking. Ater that we went surfing, the wet suits were annoying but I eventually got one on. We got better on every wave. When it was all over we wanted to stay longer. Ther beach was so far away that we had to get a bus there and back. When we did get back we went Orienteering. Then we had to take a shower. After that, we went to the kitchen to play games. We went back ot our rooms, soaked! On the second night we planned to give the leaders Hell but we fell asleep. In the morning we went abseiling, we all had two turns. Then we went horse riding. I rode on Chester, a freestyle, so I could do as I pleased. Then we went to the Hall to play soccer. After lunch we went canoeing. Later we had dinner and got on the bus for the return journey. We watched Bugs Bunny and Sister Act. By the end of the films we were back in Bray. Everybody was asleep and that was my trip to Delphi.
