MISSION STATEMENT

Impulsive Records is a parent Dance Music Record Label, Music Publishing & Distribution Company & DJ/Artist Agency.

It was launched to help put Irish produced dance music into the international dance arena. DJ/producer Dean Sherry originated the idea of Impulsive in 1997. Together with his partners plus other select DJ’s, producers and musicians, he thought of a plan to help nurture the considerable Irish musical talent in the dance music genre and encourage growth in the area.

Teaming up with some old friends in the industry and calling on some new ones the IR crew came about. Fresh Promotions had previously only acted as an event management company, now it acted as a booking agent for this new company and DJ agency.

The idea was to create quality underground dance music, covering all available genres, not being pigeonholed and being very adaptive and flexible.

Impulsive is dedicated to the evolvement of dance music and is pioneering the ‘Future DJ’ project in Ireland. The label is proud to feature a live ‘Future DJ’ show, featuring multiple DJs interacting live on turntables, outboard effects and keyboards. The DJ’s, using 2-3 decks each, plus incorporating simultaneously into the performance live drum machines, samplers, keyboards, and other outboard effects. The aim of the label is to cover a broad range of the dance music spectrum utilising the best people in the Irish industry at present for input and assistance. By using various studios and working with various different artists and contributors in an effort to bring a different yet fresh and comprehensive edge to our tracks, the label hopes to gain a competitive edge. Impulsive aims to launch numerous singles across the board and flood the world market with a wide variety of different musical creations covering every angle of dance music as we see it today, and looking forward also at endeavouring to cater for tomorrow’s musical tastes. The label features some of the most forward-thinking artists and DJs available in the country.

‘Behavior’, (Dean Sherry & Darren Flynn & Tony Dexter), is one of the featured groups, and the three are collaborating with the other concerned artists to produce different tracks under some other aliases such as the "D.C. Collective" & the "Dark Path". We intend to use a core production crew and on occasion invite in guest artists and DJ’s, etc. to input their ideas and influence a track or remix or indeed to help produce their own track. This way Impulsive can help open the musical and creative doors to the Irish dance population. Keiran Reilly of renowned recording studios, ‘Pulse’ (Dublin), is also assisting the label as final engineer. The sensual vocal talents of Irish singer Lisa Kendrick, is also being utilised by Impulsive for various projects.

For other projects Ken Mc Hugh of Area 51 studios is part of the team, and he is currently working with the acclaimed "PHUNK’DUP" DJ act of Dean Sherry, Darren Nolan & Barry Dempsey. This is currently our flagship and most critically acclaimed act.

Impulsive will have a recognisable and distinguishable sound but it aims to cover all the variants and hybrids of dance music that it can manage – just like the way dance music has itself fragmented to cater for more discerning and demanding tastes. Quality, creditability and a true underground feel should identify the Impulsive sound.

In regards classifying the sound, although quite difficult, it could be a collage of Underground Deep House, Progressive, Hard Trance, Tech-House, Funky Techno, and Break-Beats. But these styles are just a generalisation of the diversity within Impulsive, and we are constantly looking forward.

Recording and production work has already been underway since early 1997 and ‘Behavior’ already has many tracks, plus remixes complete. The other named aliases also have tracks recorded. Work is continuing and outside artist’s demos are welcome.
