Alan Couch hails from Dublins Northside and was born into this world around 1974, from unknown circumstances. His interest and involvement in music stems from an early age. Originally involved in the school band scene in his early teens, he gigged extensively around Dublins live venues. Unfortunately due to band differences and a rather unfortunate bike accident involving Dean Sherry and a £10 death trap bike in 1989, he dropped out, disillusioned, broken hearted, and broken-faced (literally!). (He lost half an eyebrow and never had any ear lobes!).
The next few years were dedicated to drugs, shaggin birds, booze, tabs, the occasional bit of paying work, and generally having an already legendary fucking time with his mate and accomplice in crime Mr. Dean Sherry. This hazy period between 1990-1996 was quite some rollercoaster with Couch, Deano and a few other select mates including Darren Nolan (a.k.a. The Penguin, Freaky Feet, 10 to 2, Flipper The Bush Kanga-Dolphin, etc, etc.) and the dearly departed shine-head, Bren Whelan. The lads have hung around with each other since the dawn of man, when nothing made sense, man, and still (almost) do, to this day, barr Bren, whos fucked off. Couch is the founder of the infamous Betty Ford Clinic, that meet in select drinking establishments in the suburban Dublin area on a quite regular basis.
Young Couch has been integral to the development and morale of both Impulsive Records and especially Fresh Promotions. He has assisted Dean and Darren in both the promotion and organisation of many of Freshs gigs nation-wide. In regard to Sherry Trifle, in Bray, Co. Wicklow, Couch was basically Deans right-hand man. Holding the post of light-jock, for this and other venues proved Alan to be a valuable and irreplaceable component to the events. Couch catered also for all the eager ladies that troubled the evenings entertainment policies! Alan Couch has a great love and appreciation for all types of music, from dance through to rock.
But being a talented singer / songwriter, with a natural flair for lyrics, he was destined to become further involved in music whenever he just bothered to get up off his skinny bony arse! That moment loomed over him in late 1997 with his introduction by Deano to ex-Missing Link guitarist Gerry Bennett of Finglas in North Dublin. Missing Link were one of the brightest hopes and successful live bands in the golden era of Irish live bands around the late eighties to early ninties time period. They had several Top 10 hits including "Shake It Up" and "I Got Love". Disaster hit the group though in the early nineties when the lead singer, Jimmy Tague, had to retire due to serious illness.
Together Alan and Gerry recorded with drummer Paul Johnson and bassist Keith Dixon in their Dublin studio extensively writing new and original material of which, the chosen few that have actually heard some of the material, predict a very bright future indeed for the duo.
They played a few gigs in 1999 in venues including the Mean Fiddler and Eamonn Dorans. But he yearned to experience more in life and decided to see some of what the world had to offer.
So in mid-1999 Couch felt his time had come to move on and left the band, called at the time "SATURATED", under good terms and went off to the land of the free in San Francisco to chase fame, fortune and his hole.
He is still currently there and any enquiries can be Emailed to us here.
