Barry first appeared on the Irish DJing circuit in the summer of 1994. At that time he was playing support slots to Paddy Sheridan for the legendary ‘ART’ night @ POD! These sets consisted of US Garage, Progressive House and early Trance! The following year Barry teamed up with Dean Sherry on the latter’s ‘Seventh Heaven’ night on Thursday nights also @ POD, and then on the 'UP' residency that followed, plus 'Bob's Full House'.

It was from the ‘Seventh Heaven’ nights that a mutual love of the same styles in music stemmed and to the present day both DJ’s, along with Darren Nolan, are enjoying the success of THE most successful national and international club night (this night has taken them as far as Istanbul!) that is ‘Phunk’Dup’!

In regard to solo projects Barry Dempsey set up and DJ-ed at nights entitled ‘Up-For-It!’ at various clubs and colleges in the capital. These venues included Coolmine R.F.C., and the Stillorgan Park Hotel and the opportunity arose from these nights for up and coming DJ’s to perform for their first times – needless to say it was a great success!

Barry’s music derives from the early Progressive House/Trance sound. His sets incorporate a wide variety of styles of dance including Techno, Hard Trance, Tech House and New Breaks and these draw influences from the more diverse of music styles! His, now legendary, radio show on KISS 105.8 has been running since the station started 18 months ago and he has built up quite a following from this 6-8pm show!

Currently Barry is working hard in the studio with Dean and Darren under the ‘Phunk’Dup’ banner and the lads hope to have a debut release for Autumn - ‘‘The Phunk’Dup debut release promises to be an absolute blinder for the underground clubs’ dancefloors’’

These bring back a few memories!!! These tunes have rocked it for me in the progressive years of the early ‘90’s. Just looking through and compiling this list of titles brings back memories of the summer of ’95, when the progressive sound was huge in Dublin – Visions Of Shiva, Kim Mazelle and Havanna being the pioneers!

And today, this ‘sound’ is getting harder than ever, bigger beats, almost hand-in-hand with Techno – with Oakenfold, Sasha and Warren leading this field by far.

House Of Pain’s "Jump Around" was always a favourite of mine, and always bordered the commercial/underground tag but never lost it’s feel. This track truly shows that Hip-Hop can work hand in hand with any live set, be it house, Techno or Jungle! And that’s what really counts!
