The Irish in Istanbul' _Jameson press Office in Istanbul 8/3/99

Dean Sherry and Barry Dempsey (Impulsive Records Ireland) have been chosen and asked to travel to Istanbul in Turkey to represent the sound of the Ireland's Underground Dance Music in the 'A Sense Of Ireland Festival' sponsored by Jameson Irish Distillers between the dates of March 18th until March 21st, just after St. Patrick's Day. We are the only two dance music artists/DJs to be offered to travel and appear at this festival, which to date has only catered for traditional musicians. This is quite an achievement for us. Some of this recognition is related to the continuing success of the "PHUNK'DUP" dance tours and appearances around Ireland's venues and colleges by Dean, Barry & Darren Nolan.

Following is an excerpt from the official Press release from Jameson:

FIRBREAGA are an Irish cultural productions group based in both Dublin and Istanbul. For several years we have been organising and promoting Irish cultural events in Istanbul. Our previous productions include Bloomsday ’ 96, ’97, ’98, Crazy Jane Masquerade (street performance), June 1998 and A Sense of Ireland Festival ’98.

AIM: The festival’s aim is to promote cultural interchange and understanding between Ireland and Turkey. We want to increase the familiarity of the Turkish public with the rich cultural, musical and literary heritage of Ireland. With economic, political, and social ties between the two countries continuously strengthening a huge fascination and interest in Ireland exists here in Turkey.

The Dublin club scene is commonly acknowledged as one of the best in Europe. A Sense of Ireland Festival brings some of the hottest DJs on the scene to Istanbul. DJ Dean Sherry plays deep hard progressive House and Techno, supported by Barry Dempsey. Both are no strangers to the Irish club scene, especially Dean, and he runs Fresh Promotions as well as the record label Impulsive Records.
