Manorhamilton is the Capital of North Leitrim.

This pen & ink drawing was used for a range of notelets

Manorhamilton Castle 1634 - 1652

On a gentle eminence in the Breffnian valley watered by the fresh and foaming mountain streamlet, the Owenmore, an affluent of the Bonet stands the Castle of Manorhamilton. This castle was one of the strongest fortified buildings in Connaught, built at immense cost by its Lord, Sir Frederick Hamilton.

There now exists at the Castle a Heritage Centre depicting the history of the Castle and the old rulers of Breffny, the O’ Rourkes.

The legends of the Wild Rose of Lough Gill still evoke memories long forgotten,

“She’s more sweet than the sunset, more bright than the swan”

Step back in time at this peaceful site and blend the old with the new.
