I live in Hunters Run and my daughter is 4 in June. I got a letter last to say my daughter could not attend the school (Mary mother of hope). I went to see the headmaster today and he told me that she was a couple of days out as it went by age. He also told me that I could wait until next year to start her as did some parents last year. I will have to enroll her in Huntstown and hope she will get a place as I feel she is ready for school. Does anyone know if we can go to Dunboyne and did the children in the crèche (Littlepace) get first preference before me? J.S

Does anyone else in the Linnetfields area have a problem with the severe price increase in the Management Fees? We moved in less than a year ago and paid £380.00 (€483.00) we received notification that the new fees have increased to £550 (€698.00). What are we getting for the extra £170 (€216.00)? One of the main lights in the Square has been faulty for the last 9-10 months. The security gate and remotes are out of sync. The common areas are in poor condition yet they claim to be paying a gardener 20'000 Euro p.a. As far as I can see, Keenan Property Management is over charging and they're providing a pitiful service. Does anyone agree?
Would anyone be interested in forming a Residents committee or have advice on setting one up? Any advice would be appreciated - Linnetfields Resident.

I just want to thank the '2 Rosedale Residents' who distributed a letter on Wednesday evening last. They outlined 3 issues that have been disturbing many Rosedale residents over the last couple of months. One of the issues was the up-keep of the lawns etc in the area and low and behold within 24 hours of the letter being distributed (which highlighted the name of the person responsible for same) the lawns were cut, cleaned etc. The 'security' gates have also become a farce, as they are constantly broken. We will be receiving a bill for the upkeep of these items in October later this year and I am curious what the reaction will be from other residents but the phrase 'hell freezing over' comes to my mind in relation to my attitude to paying this fee. - A grateful Rosedale resident.

Can you tell me if Linnetfields have set up a resident's association yet? I see there is a link for it on the website but cannot get into it. On talking to some neighbours in the Linnetfields area there appears to be a lot of complaints in relation to the maintenance of the area and with the management group. However no one seems to know who to discuss them with. Can you help? - SR (Dear Resident, some time ago Clonee.org was approached by a Linnetsfield resident about having a webpage with info on it for you guys. I put the link up, but no info materialised. The facility is still available if you want it! - Editor)

I am considering buying a home in Littlepace. Does anyone know what the level of Car, house burglary crime is in the area??

Can anyone tell me if their is a Linnetfields Association,,, and does anyone know anything about the burnt out car in Linnetfields Court. - NR

Does anyone know anything about the burned out car in the green area between Hazlebury Park and Castaheney, next to the Hazlebury houses....does anyone know who to contact to remove such things[Fingal County Council?] It really makes a bad impression on the area , and it is not the first I have seen in that general area... where are these cars coming from?

What is this I hear that older children will get preference into the new school for Sep 2002 if numbers are a problem??? What happened to 1st come, 1st served ? I specifically made sure that I was at the school really early on the 1st night of registration, because I don't have a car and I know getting my child to another school will be very difficult for me. So the fact that I really made an effort to be there first, doesn't count at all ! I find it unacceptable that age will be the only criteria used to choose who's children get places and who's don't. What about other people like me who don't have access to a car and bought or is renting a house close to the school because they knew that transport would be a problem for them as well?? This is unacceptable!! - SP

Ken Dignans addressing problem...glad to see a bit of humour on the comment page ..turn your problem to your advantage.....

Try this one ring up a car insurance company use example 2 or 4 then ring up the same insurance company 2 hours letter and use example 3 and save your self 200 euro and that my friend is magic - culchie when it counts. - cg

Like myself, I'm sure many of you have family/friends living in the Dublin Corporation area. I have just discovered that residents in the Dublin Corporation area are to be charged EUR120 per annum for weekly collections of grey bins. Residents can pay the total annual charge of EUR120 or they can break it up into 2 payments of EUR60 i.e. every six months. This is also tax deductible. Dublin Corporation residents have already received their Recycling Bins, which are collected free of charge.

My query is as follows: Why am I, as a resident in Fingal County Council having to pay more than double the above fee for the same service i.e. EUR260 per annum? We are expected to purchase tags @ EUR5 for every collection. Even if my bin were collected every 2 weeks, I would still be paying more than Dublin Corporation residents receiving weekly collections - so I don't accept the "You only pay for what you throw away" crap. Also, I still have not received my Recycling Bin.

How am I supposed to make a claim to the tax office - am I supposed to keep a copy of every tag I purchase? I have written to Joan Burton TD about this issue and will inform you all of her reply. I'm dying to hear the justification for these charges. I think all the Resident's Associations need to get together and lodge a joint complaint with Fingal County Council about this matter.

Yours very angrily,
LM.

From Unison web-site:
"Fingal County Council has agreed to continue to collect household waste free of charge for the time being. It follows the expiry of an interim High Court injunction won by Socialist TD Joe Higgins against the council's bin tax. The Dublin West deputy has brought the case on the grounds that the charge is an unjust local levy. The case has been adjourned until 29 May."

I spoke to the environment department this morning in Fingal County Council.

The current stance is that Bins will be collected if they do not have a tag - "Bins will be collected with out the tags, you will be encoring an extra charge for the council" i.e. the council will be paying.

There is a judicial review on the whole issue as to whether or not the council can refuse to collect bins if they do not have the tag. This is due to take place next Tuesday (so watch the press and www.fingalcoco.ie).

With regard to the locations as to where you can purchase the Tags, they hope to have the spar in Littlepace on board by the end of the week. His advice is keep an eye out for the little sticker in the window.

I also enquired about the Green Bins. The plan is to have these introduced into the estate with in the next couple of months...

When having our bins collected this week, I attached the complimentary tag to my bin as I put it out. On my way to work I did notice a lot of bins on my road did not have the tags on their bins, but on my return from work that day I noticed the bins were all emptied as lots had blown over in the wind. I thought the system for tagging was starting this week, and am not wondering whether to bother buying tags for coming weeks if my bin will be emptied anyway..... can I be fined, are the binmen legally obliged to take the rubbish away even if I don't have this tag - I keep hearing different slants on this issue...? So tag or no tag next week ????
I would like to make one thing clear to the person that has singled out Littlepace as being the instigators behind the school catchment areas and the other person asking questions as to why Ongar and Ravensdale should be included in the Mother of Hope catchment area. I am directly involved in trying to reverse the decision that Deerhaven, Pheasants Run, Bramblefields, Thornberry Square and Swallowbrook should be a separate catchment area and I want to make it clear to all - This school was campaigned for and planned to provide education for all in our whole estate. I have amongst others productively spoke to numerous residents in this estate and all are outraged and have pledged to support each other to resolve this situation. Ongar and Ravensdale will have their own school in a few years according to their area plans but in the meantime they are entitled to choose where to send their children to school whether it be the school in the estate or elsewhere. I know that we as a whole area are extremely annoyed and dissapointed by this sudden decision but we must all work together for one common purpose and that is to ensure that we have a primary school in this area that is capable of taking in all the children from the area.

To the person that stated that our estates are close to Huntstown and can't understand why we can't bring our children to school there. Yes this is true, we are very close to Huntstown but there is no road access to the school and there have been two planning permissions refused for a road there in the past because 1) the residents of Huntstown and our estates do not want it because it will jeopardised the safety of our children 2) the police in the area do not want it because it will become a rat run for joyriders. Also many mothers and fathers in the estate have child minding arrangements in the area i.e. creches who would collect the children from the new school but not from Huntstown school and in order for them to continue their daily lives they were/ are dependant on this creche/ school arrangement. You said also about children going to school in bad weather. At present the parents of children already attending Huntstown school are driving to the roundabout at the top of the estate and having to walk 800 yards to Huntstown school, their only other option is to drive the four miles out of our estate (past our estate primary school), and pass the primary school on the Blakestown Road before getting to Huntstown school. At present this roundabout at the top of the estate is an accident waiting to happen because it is so congested at school times so what will it be like in 5 years time? even next year?. I hope that you can see that this is not an act of snobbery, it is about common sense, ensuring our childrens safety and the practicalities of this situation because as it stands - it is not a practical solution.

I would very much like to thank, as a Deerhaven Resident, on behalf of the five areas affected the support of many many people outside the excluded catchment area who have pledged to unite and support us in our goal to rectify this situation especially the Residents of Littlepace/ Castaheany / Hansfield/ Hunters Run/ Rosedale/ Ravensdale/ Ongar and Beechwood.

Make no mistake, this school is an integral part of our estate as a whole and it is vital to the growth and unification of our community. So we have to stop blaming all in sundry, stand together and get to the heart of the matter which is gaining a larger primary school which will meet all the children of the areas needs.

Yours sincerely
Deerhaven Resident

Does anybody know if all the resident associations have got together yet to form a combined action plan. I am aware that last Friday night a survey / petition on a door to door basis was carried out in Deerhaven. Has this also been completed in other estates? Have the action group met with the school board of management yet. This injustice needs action NOW. Is another general meeting planned?? - PT.
I would just like to respond to the comments made by the Hazelbury Resident formerly from Hunstown Wood. As a resident from Pheasant Run, no one person that I have spoken to has said anything bad about the Sacred Heart of Jesus School, we are all well aware that it is known to be one of the best schools in the Dublin 15 area. Also, I have never traveled that way for anything, before the Spar came about I went to Clonee, go to mass in Dunboyne or indeed, Blanchardstown, so not everyone used your facilities.

However, the problem is choice. We all have a choice to send our children to whatever school we wish and if we had to fight long and hard to get the school we were promised when buying our house, we should be able to send them there, or at least it should have been on a first come first served basis.

We are all trying to become part of a community, create a community spirit and this is not helping one bit, the church as tried to pull a fast one. It has been said that the Sacred Heart of Jesus School need more children of the younger age group to ensure that everything runs smoothly with the new school, so the parish priest decided to pull in a few estates to ensure he has his numbers. But, what was forgotten he would have his numbers anyway, because Mary, Mother of Hope only has 60 places, so most of the children would have had to go to other schools and more than lightly Sacred Heart of Jesus, but why do it so unfairly, why make a child in another estate have more rights than any child in the excluded estate.

At the end of the day, it is little kiddies that are loosing out, and I would say a lot of parents who had intended to share the runs to school are loosing out also.

This is not a issue that one school is better than the other and you are perfectly right Mary, Mother of Hope is only starting out and will more than lightly need a lot of help to become a good school, maybe fund raising involved, are we expected to fork out here also, we gave time to get the school in the first place, so if the community decides to get together to raise funds are we going to be excluded again.

I also think it is quite funny that we have to go to Mary, Mother of Hope to vote on Wednesday, will this be the only time I or indeed my children will allowed in the school!!!!!

If people are saying unsuitable things about Hunstown or indeed the school, I would agree that this is unfair and uncalled for, but I can honestly tell you that is not where I am coming from or indeed a lot of people I know, it is first and foremost a matter of choice. - Details with Editor

CHARGE FOR GREY BIN STAYS. RECYCLE FOR FREE.
ONLY PAY FOR WHAT YOU THROW AWAY
IN FINGAL - Fingal County Council Press Release

Monday 4th March 2002: Householders in Fingal County Council administrative area are being told by the local authority that the €5 charge for non-recyclable waste remains in place and they should buy a tag for their grey bin every time they leave it out for collection. Fingal County Council has introduced the new initiative to encourage householders to recycle more and will contest an interim injunction in the High Court on March 12th obliging them to collect all grey bins, whether tagged or not. The local authority collects householders' green recycling bin for free.

"The charge for the grey bin is in place and stays" confirms PJ Howell, Director of Services, Environment, Fingal County Council. "It's more cost effective for householders than paying a flat one off annual charge and it is transparent and fair. We need householders to pay for what they throw away, so that we can use the money we receive to extend the recycling services that everyone in the county wants to see put in place. Each grey bin must have a tag attached every time it is put out for collection and tags can be bought at local shops. Tags for a standard sized 240L bin cost €5 and €2.50 for a smaller 120L bin. Households that don't yet have a green wheelie bin collection service pay a reduced price of €3.00 or €1.50 for the 120L bin."

"Recycling and the urgent need to manage waste effectively are perhaps the most urgent and immediate challenge facing Fingal County Council", says Willie Soffe, Fingal County Manager. "Unlike a fixed charge, the proposed new Environmental charge for the collection of non-recyclable waste presented for collection will encourage the householder to become part of the solution by actively promoting the reduction, reuse and recycling of waste to meet the target of diverting current levels of 90% of waste going to landfill to just 16%. Tax Relief is allowable on charges paid. A waiver scheme is in place and the estimated 20% of householders who are pensioners, unemployed or dependent on social welfare or disability payments can apply now to Fingal County Council for a waiver."

Cllr Cathal Boland, Cathaoirleach, Fingal County Council says that the emphasis on waste minimisation and recycling has already begun in the Fingal area.

The vast majority of the school management - headmaster, priest & board live in Littlepace ….. it is clear they think they are above everyone else - just like their residents association. It's the Littlepace football team, Littlepace Mother & Toddler group, Littlepace this, Littlepace that. They are trying to keep everything for themselves and prevent the rest of the estates benefiting. They oppose the pub - not in my back yard (and considering the composition of the residents association - say no more) - we get a school then they want it for themselves …. No doubt they will claim success in getting the proposed pedestrian crossing and claim success for everything else. Just remember, it was NOT JUST LITTLEPACE who fought for the school - it was ALL THE ESTATES. Now is the time to get the fight really started. I am so sorry I missed the meeting on Wednesday but I was away on business - but am I looking forward to the next one or what? I checked the Littlepace RA website and not a hint at this situation - they are all obviously delighted. -Details with Editor

There are several issues outlined previously which I feel are of great importance to all of the different estates.

1. The grass verges - totally unbecoming of relatively new estates. I agree with a previous that it doesn't reflect well, it looks dirty and if I were in a position that I was buying a new home I would look at how the area was kept - which in my opinion is not very well - is pride a thing of the past?

2. The Littlepace carpark - how much does it cost to put even temporary markings? Will someone have to be seriously hurt or killed before something is done?

3. The school - I agree with those who feel it's unfair that they live so close to the school and cannot send their children to it? Basically it boils down to this, if the Minister for Education did his job correctly this wouldn't of happened. There should have been a 32 classroom school which would have catered for the requirement of the area. It is because of his lack of action that a catchment area had to be drawn up.

4. Speed - where's the race? Who is that far from their home that they need to speed around narrow little roads? What I'd like to know is what is so important that they have to speed...nice dinner (it will still be there), need to pee (learn to hold it for an extra 30 seconds, if help is required to learn this task please ask the local GP - I'm sure he'd be able to help), if it's just a case that you like to speed - SLOW DOWN BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED OR SERIOUSLY HURT

5. In relation to the comment from "MFC" - I agree with you. The next time you see this, please call the Garda. It's an absolute disgrace - and it does leave the place in a mess. As for the "parent" who thinks this is perfectly okay - are you sure you can actually say that this is responsible behaviour. There are places to go to use the quads - go to them. Put the dirty equipment in YOUR car and see how responsible you feel then!

In all I do actually like where I live, but sometimes with a little consideration from others it would really make it a nicer place to live. Thanks to those who maintain the website - it's a great service that people can use - well done! - Details with Editor

Please Please Please Help!!!! I have a problem with my address. I live in Hazelbury Park. From many ads in the area, the addresses read as follows

Why not, as every wannabe Castleknock resident on all estates in this area do the same. - Ken Dignam

As a former resident of Huntstown Wood (I lived there for 17 years and am now living in Hazelbury Park), It's ironic to think that as little as 5 years ago the residents of Pheasant Run and Bramblefields were quite content to use the school, church, shops, bus stops etc, and also happy to use the Huntstown Wood cul de sacs to gain access to their estates, by driving their cars across the green. It's obvious that the only part of Huntstown they were unhappy to use was the name !!!!!!!!!!. With regard to Huntstown school, my 2 daughters have received an excellent education thanks to Mr Lynch and his staff. It's a bit premature to compare the new school with the excellent track record of Huntstown, as the new school is in it's first year. Am I to understand that people living on the door step of Huntstown school, are happier to make the 15-20 minute walk to Mary Mother Of Hope school, on a winters morning?. The rules for determining the catchment area are a mystery to me, but ignorant and ill-informed comment regarding Huntstown and it's school do not help. - Hazelbury Park Resident
Hi, I am a new Rosedale resident and I cannot seem to get a network connection from my mobile phone whilst at home. Is this just my problem or is it old news with you more settled Littlepace residents? It is most frustrating and I am considering calling Eircell to clarify the problem. Can anybody advise if this issue has arisen in the past and if so what was outcome? - Rosedale resident.
I too am enraged to hear of the exclusion of certain estates from the catchment area - and I live within the catchment area, so can only imagine how infuriated and frustrated the parents of these 5 estates feel. For those within the catchment area, things are not so rosy either - because of the large numbers enrolling from within the catchment area, parents are being told that there children may be refused a place this September based on age - basically the oldest children who apply will be given precedence. A limit of 60 places are available, so the oldest 60 children will gain entry. There are parents of children who will be 4 ½ in September being told they are not guaranteed places this year - what are they meant to do - wait until their children are 5 1/2 before starting them in school??

I am not apportioning blame here - I really don't know is it the Government or the Board of management who screwed up - but we have been failed! It is disgraceful - I was one of those who registered my childs name (along with my neighbours) over 2 years ago, in order to justify numbers to the Department of Education to setup the school, and now some of us will be told our children will not be allowed entry this year. As for Ongar and Ravenswood being in the catchment area? These new estates did not participate in any of the activities involved in establishing this school, and they also have access to the Clonsilla road to access schools from there - who decided it was justifiable to allow them into the catchment area at the expense of the other 5 estates. - Details with Editor.

I am a local resident (of one of the 'excluded' estates) and a mother of three. In relation to the designation of the so-called catchment area for the local school, I have a number of points to make.

1. It is my clear understanding that the Ongar Development will have it's own site for a school, in keeping with their plan for a 'community' style development with facilities within easy reach of homes (a bit like all of us expected this development to be!). It is therefore un-necessary as well as totally mystifying that the local clergy would want to include the Ongar residents in their new so-called catchment area.

2. It is grossly un-democratic that people, who are unelected and unaccountable, can create an invisible boundary which will directly affect the value of a huge number of houses, in direct comparison to equivalent houses which have access to a local school.

3. In order to access Hunstown by car, (which is how most people travel to work and drop off children), the so-called parishioners from the excluded estates, would have to exit their own estates, passing our 'local' school, cross over the N3 and then cross over the N3 again to attend the school which these pillars of the community have deemed as our local school!!!!

4. When this school was being set up, I emailed this website to suggest that it would be far more reflective of the diversity in our community to create a multi-denominational school rather then a school which is designated as one religion. Although some people were at pains to point out at the time that this school would be open to 'everyone', I guess they really didn't consider that not excluding people from different religions (and none) isn't quite the same as having a school managed and run by people other than Catholic priests.

5. In response to the comment suggesting that this is the fault of the Dept. of Ed. for not designating enough space for the school, you'll forgive me if I am a bit cynical about that, as an excuse for what's happened. If that is the case, then prospective parents from all local esatates should have been told that their children's place in the school depended on them applying major pressure on the Dept. through their local rep's and directly, to get an adequate allocation of space. I am sure people would far prefer to be allies in a common cause than excluded totally on a completely spurious division of our community according to which 'parish' wants to lay claim to which souls!!

I would like to sympathise with all of the families who had an expectation that their children would not be excluded from attending their local school. However, this is not a new emotion for some of us! Because we choose not to have our children experience a one-denominational education, we have always had to travel to school. Best of luck reversing this ridiculous decision! - E.B.

I am a Deerhaven resident who agrees with the vast majority of local residents that the recent school catchment areas are ludicrous. Others have summarised my main bones of contention, and I must reiterate that as parents it should of course be our decision where we choose to educate our children. My wife and I are incensed by the current situation - it will directly impact us, as we have a baby daughter - and will help any efforts to get it overturned. - Paul Reynolds, Deerhaven Green
Can anyone tell me has there been a residents association formed for the Huntersrun area. - PB

We can't build any more class rooms but we can build a church!!!!!!!!!

F02A/0116 11/02/02 Outline Permission
APPLICANT: Rev. Fr. John Jones, P.P.
36 Ashfield Lawn, Huntstown, Dublin 15.
LOCATION: Junction of Pace Road and Pace Avenue, Littlepace, Dublin 15.
PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT: New parish church.

May be we the residents should object to the church being built in an effort to force the hand of the clergy and schools board of mgt. Change the church to an extra 16 class rooms any all will be happy!!!!!! There are a falling number of priests entering the church so this would be an extra burden on them any way. I for one would prefer a bigger school to include the whole estate then a church, which will not get the full use of the whole estate. - Details with Editor

This decision affects all estates and will destroy any chance of developing a community spirit. The next move will be to open the road through to Huntstown to facilitate parents taking their children to school. Then we'll really see some speeding cars through the entire estate !!!!!

Attention all Littlepace / Castaheny residents, people from the 'excluded estates' stood with you on this issue before many of them had children please show your support now. Should enrolments go ahead before this issue is resolved?
Brian Lenihan and co. what happened to the Action Plan that was presented to us in the Mill House for all estates from Littlepace to Thornberry Square ??? I can only assume it did not receive Fr. Jones 's and Fr. McCarthy' blessing !!! How can a handful of people come into a potentially vibrant community, make a decision without any consultation with the residents that effectively divides the community and upset so many people??? - Angry Deerhaven Resident.

I am a Deerhaven resident and a mother of a four year old daughter. I have spent my day in work today contacting the Department of Education and alerting every TD and Councillor that represent our area about this nightmare situation that has befallen the residents of Deerhaven, Bramblefields, Pheasants Run, Swallowbrook and Thornberry Square. I received, like all residents through my door (two days before school registration), a folded over note concealed in a pile of junk mail which I thought in itself was a very inconsiderate means of alerting people to a very important, life-changing matter. I went to the school last night to enrol my daughter because I thought I needed to hear in spoken words that my daughter (because of where she lives) would not be welcome in our school. Let me tell you that as a former resident of North Belfast - I am seeing similar similarities - funny that it is clergy related also!

I came away from the school last night sick to the pit of my stomach. My daughter was the 33rd child to be registered in the school but the headmaster told my husband out straight that she would NOT be accepted into the school. I am still very very angry. I have heard that there was an emergency meeting called last night in the Millhouse and that Sheila Terry and Joan Burton were present and that many many parents feel the same way I do. I believe that there will be people calling door to door to establish just how many children will be affected by this very unjust decision. I would like to do my part in the Deerhaven area. We must get this overturned. This is our school too - for the whole estate and it's not a matter of snobbery, it's a matter of freedom of choice which is what our country's constitution is based on.

As I have said - all TD's and Councillors are aware of this situation now and we must all stand together on this one for the sake of all our futures. As a matter of urgency, can I ask the committee of Pheasants Run to contact me so that I can play my part in Deerhaven and make sure that we overturn this absurd rule.

We all fought long and hard for this school, reason being was for our children to attend it - why were we played for fools? Yours - Most Frustrated and Very Very Angry!

LITTLEPACE ESTATE????

I'm not directly affected by the catchment area rule, if I was I would be very annoyed. I think a lot of the problem has to do with under funding from the Dept. of Education (it was a miracle that the Mother of Hope school opened on time in the first place). Also, the developers of Ongar Village advertise that there will be a school built in their village along with shops etc. I know I will be voting in the election for a candidate that will support the majority of residents on this school issue.

In relation to concerned Hazelbury resident regarding the school being empty every evening, I want to say that the school has received requests from Irish Dancing, Ballet and Taekwondo schools to offer their services in the school premises, this would in return generate rental income for the school as well as provide a direct and accessible amenity to people living in walking distance of the school. Logic is like beauty, only in the eye of the beholder. - Name & Addy with Editor

I would echo the sentiments expressed by those who are protesting about the Littlepace school catchment area. I totally disagree with the decision of the Board Of Management. However I have to concede that under the circumstances there is very little alternative open to them. They in many respects are the ones who have to deal with a mess made by others.

I too was one of the people who spent wet winter nights canvassing support for the school on the doorsteps. I attended plenty of meetings on the subject too. And most importantly of all I was one of the residents who met with the Minister Michael Woods in June 2000. And on that basis I have to point out that the blame for the very unfair setting out of the catchment areas lies solely with the Minister himself. We can be guaranteed that if the same meeting took place now, some three months before a General Election that the underhand way in which the purchase of an inadequate quantity of land for building the school would not occur. Anyone else who was at that meeting will remember that the Minister let it slip that only 3.0 acres of the 5.25 acre site was being purchased and therefore only a 16 room school could be built. Menolly were paid a substantial sum for the land and the dispute went on for an age - the duration of the dispute was supposedly not in any way related to the fact that Liam Lawlor as part owner of Menolly was in the High Court with Menolly over his share of the profits from land in the general area of Littlepace/ Castaheaney!

The reality is that the Board Of Management had to draw a boundary line somewhere because the Government have failed us - they did not purchase the necessary land, nor did they do it in time for a proper school to be built that would accommodate children from all of the new estates. Meanwhile Menolly still own the remaining portion of ground which is lying idle as waste ground and increasing in value so that when they do sell it for community use (as they eventually will) they will on the whole make more money that they would have done by selling it as one complete site. If I were the cynical type I might suggest that some sweet deal was done, but I'm sure that's not the case. Big business wins again!

So, if we are looking for someone to blame for this disgraceful situation - Michael Woods and his Government colleagues are to blame. Remember all this when the election comes!!! - Nae & Address with Editor.

It has to be an election issue the provision of a school / decent education system for these estates. We need our own identity, our own representatives who will fight for OUR CAUSES. Dublin 15 is too vast, too over populated and lacks in the right infrastructure to depend on Morrissey, Terry, Burton and Higgins not to mention Lenihan and the FF disasters. There must easily be 3000 homes in these estates and over 5000 adults / voters. Surely we can mount some challenge to the established representatives to enable us to benefit from the goodies that seem to pass us by. Brian Lenihan & those in FF are more interested in lumbering us with a costly sports stadium than providing a school for our kids. Where is the community centre, youth club, church, pedestrian crossing etc etc. We are being ripped off. It is not fair. Lets get a community candidate elected to SERVE OUR INTERESTS. - Niall
As a resident of Pheasant Run, I am not happy regarding this proposal, given that I live about a half a mile from the school, and that estates such as Ongar which is 4/5 times that distance away are included in the catchment area. I feel it is disgraceful the way that this has been introduced with no consultation with the people who matter (the parents). I certainly do not intend sending my son to Huntstown to go to school. I would be interested to see the breakdown of areas represented on the board of management of the school to see if any are from the excluded areas. - Bernard Darcy
I am a Hazelbury Park resident and I thought the area was all the one from the roundabout in. When I purchased my house 2 years ago I thought the area had great potential for community development even though the facilities were non-existent. The present situation of a dictatorship from the church and a possible further divide in our already dwindling community has added to Fingal's bin tax, builders neglect and a lack of unity in the area. The school situation is like buying a 4 bedroom house and only getting a shed. The school is empty every evening and should be available for supervised clubs etc until the possible community centre is funded and built. To fund this centre the community would depend on all households to contribute. I would agree totally that the people who are now been segregated from the school via cachment areas have more right than I have to be annoyed as a lot of these people have done the groundwork. This catchment area idea is wrong and all the residents associations should band together and fight this decision to the end. I agree all the residents have some issues of their own to resolve but they need to start pulling together to tackle the big fish. - Concerned.

I live in Pheasant Run. My children would not have to cross a road to get to the Little Pace School. They would have the pleasure of mixing with kids from our area rather than having to attend a school outside their immediate vicinity. I believe in free vote. Why should a leader of our community dictate to us our choice!!! Why can we not choose for ourselves which school we wish to send our children to? I believe all schools should operate on a list basis. First come first serve. The proposal by our Parish is a form of sectarianism that is commonly found in Northern Ireland. You are categorized on your address and the invisible line is draw. Your children now have only one choice to make - Huntstown School or else move to another area like Castleknock, Dunboyne, Clonsilla etc. This is not acceptable and must violate our constitutional rights to choose the best education for our children. It should be our choice which school we wish to send our children to. - Really annoyed Pheasant Run parent !!
I'm pleased with the new catchment areas rules, but only because I'm lucky enough to be included in the new school's area. But I'm sure if I was living in an estate that falls under the Huntstown school, I would also be upset. I know I'm not the only one that thinks that the quality of the Huntstown school is not on the same standard as the new school, so that's probably why people are so upset. - Sandra
Mr McGorman and co should be truly ashamed of themselves for allowing the Church to push though these discriminatory catchment area rules. The committee was accepting help, support and funds from EVERY estate to get the school up and running, and I even recall instances where there were more residents from outside the new catchment area at meetings than from within. Mr McGorman & co should now publicise the REAL REASONS WHY these catchment areas have been drawn up. It is a snobbery issue, a them and us issue. There is no community support for these proposals - and they should be scrapped immediately. - Littlepace Resident
I can only sympathise with parents and children who have got the short end of the stick in this crazy catchment controversy. Imagine a 4 year old child on a horrible winters morning having to walk from Deerhaven to Huntstown. Not every parent has the luxury of a car or two and for many parents the walk to and from the school twice daily will be a daunting task - not to mention to effect on the children. For the sake of the children, drop these ridiculous catchment areas and concentrate on more important issues like making school an enjoyable experience - not a constant wrangle and politicking. - Ivan
Mary Mother of Hope National School has nailed the coffin shut. The community is being split once again. Local wannabees are trying to play Judge and Jury with the lives of residents. Once again the Church interferes and says - no - this is the way it will be done, - without concern or cause for those affected. There are some people who talk community, community, community when they are in the public eye and behind closed doors only want to look after their own interests. I live in this area and fall into the catchment area for Mary Mother of Hope - where my children will NOT BE GOING. I like many other parents make decisions about my childrens education for other reasons - not solely because of where we bought a house. Education is about choice - and all of a sudden the Board of Mary Mother of Hope, the Religious elements, management elements and no doubt political elements and all had their hands on the hammer of doom - they have taken away that basic right - the right to choose. What next?? A Holy Cross scenario where Huntstown pupils won't be allowed to walk past Mary Mother of Hope?? Shame on all concerned, shame.
Just a few comments on Ravenswood, I find I have a big problem with my address, letters are not arriving, then some people address it Clonee, Co.Meath rather than Dublin 15, so I don't receive these, where is the local sorting office for Clonee? Another problem is the bus doesn't go as far as Ravenswood, the bus driver said a couple of people would have to make their opinions known about it, before there would be a bus stop put there. - Sean

2. The Littlepace car park - how much does it cost to put even temporary markings? Will someone have to be seriously hurt or killed before something is done?

3. The school - I agree with those who feel it's unfair that they live so close to the school and cannot send their children to it? Basically it boils down to this, if the Minister for Education did his job correctly this wouldn't of happened. There should have been a 32-classroom school, which would have catered for the requirement of the area.

- Gillian.

I do have better things to do, but the simple fact is that these minors, regardless of the fact that they are with an adult, require at least 3rd. party insurance (I have checked this out ) and would not be granted this due to the fact they are underage and do not hold a licence, therefore making it an offence to use this vehicle in a public place. I think if you check with the council they also would not agree with you that your child is entitled to ride his quad on their (public) land. I have pointed out these facts not because I have nothing better to do, but because it is dangerous, irresponsible and illegal. After all, would you give your boys a moped or small motorbike to ride (same category), even if you accompanied them, so that they could enjoy being children? I do hope your boys can enjoy their quads, but it should be in a controlled environment (supervised track etc.) - MFC-Littlepace
I beg to differ from everyone complaining about Scene's Gardens' service. I must admit I haven't checked the Euro prices yet, but every single time I have ever ordered from them, the food was at my house in Hunters Run within 30 minutes and still too hot to eat. Even is the prices were increased slightly, I'm willing to pay a few cents more just because the service has always been excellent !! - Sandra
Just as you come off the last round about in to the Bramblefield Estate there are two very large commercial trucks parked over night (5pm onwards), less then 20yards form the round about. The larger of the trucks would seem to be operated by Paddy, as it displays "Paddy's Rig" on the windscreen. There have been numerous near misses between people entering and exiting the estate. Can the owners of these trucks please find somewhere else to park them? It's hard enough to watch out for all the kids playing on the road with out creating the huge blind spot. - JM
Following a letter from Fr. John Jones the Parish Priest of Hunstown, I would be very interested to hear how people feel that children who now live in Swallowbrook, Thornberry Square, Bramblefields, Deerhaven and Pheasant Run cannot enroll in the Mary, Mother of Hope National School in Littlepace, children from the afore mention estates, who are starting school now are in the newly outlined catchment area and must now attend Sacred Heart of Jesus National School in Hunstown.

I was one of those who fought long and hard, going to meeting after meeting in the Millhouse and Grasshopper, marching outside Leinster House and standing outside the showhouse letting people know that there was no school. We won we got a school and because I live in one of the above estate, I cannot send my child to a school that I fought for and that I was promised when I bought my house

I would love to hear how parents feel about this issue. Also when, I bought my house I was told we would have church in the grounds of the Littlepace Shopping Centre, I wasn't aware that all the estate in the area, the above mentioned and Castaheany, Hazelbury, Hansfield, Hunters Run, Littlepace, Linnetsfields, Manorfields, Rosedale, Ravensdale and Ongar all belong to the Parish of Hunstown, The Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish. I think this is very interesting indeed, so we all are after buying houses in Hunstown.

If you are not happy with this I would urge you to contact Fr. John Jones and share your views with him.

Name & contact with editor.

I was extremely disappointed and annoyed with the leaflet that was dropped into the house on Sunday regarding Primary School Catchment Areas. Basically for those living in Deerhaven, Pheasants Run, Swallowbrook, Thornberry Square and Bramblefields, and who do not have children currently enrolled in our new school, Mary, Mother of Hope have now been told that our children must attend the primary school in Huntstown. This applies to all houses from the third roundabout down to Huntstown. This I would imagine means that we are now considered part of the Huntstown Parish/Area.

I realise that my disappointment may appear to be one of snobbery but this is not the case. Houses to be included in the new school in Littlepace/Castaheany includes Ravensdale and Ongar. We are a lot nearer to the school than these houses and I think that it is unfair that our children are not to be considered as part of the Littlepace Community.

I personally have always felt that we were part of this community, we use the Littlepace Shopping Centre as our local shops (not great but what can you do!), have had various leaflets over the past few years asking us to support the finances of our new school, we have been built under the same plan as our neighbours in Hunters Run etc and yet now we are been told that we are not included in the community plans.

If anyone else feels this way could they please voice their opinion, I don't think that we should be just considered Huntstown without having some say in the matter. Also perhaps you could get onto your Residents Association and ask them to tackle this matter as one of urgency. - Deerhaven Resident

I received a notice in my door yesterday about school catchment areas. My understanding is that if I live in either SWALLOWBROOK, THORNBERRY SQUARE, BRAMBLEFIELDS, DEERHAVEN OR PHESANTS RUN then I have no choice but to send my child to the Sacred Heart of Jesus National School in Huntstown. If my understanding is correct then I think it is very unfair that because we live in these estates then we have no choice as to where we send our children to school. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the Sacred Heart of Jesus School but I would certainly like to have the choice as to where I would send my children and not be told. Surely as a parent I can make that decision and not the board of managements and the local priest. If my understanding of this is wrong I stand corrected. - Deerhaven Resident.

I have just been looking at the Fingal County Council web site. In the section "publications" which lists the minutes of the meetings held there is none for 2002!!

Does this mean that there have been no council meetings held since the new year began or Does it take over a month and a half to type and post these to there website or
It could be that they want to keep us in the dark ……Who knows............. Name & Details with Editor.

I will be moving to Hansfield next month and was wondering which parish (RC) I will be in. - Ruth.

In response to the MFC-Littlepace resident, I would like to reply to your concerns in relation to the young boys on the quad. For your information you ask where are the parents of these children and are the concerned? You obviously don't have your information right because if you were looking out at these boys you would see that they always have a parent with them and to even ask are we concerned is a joke! They are not out to do any damage to your greens, it's a public area and they are entitled to be there, also they are not a danger to anybody else, they don't be alone they have two responsible parents and they are responsible children. You must have nothing else to do with your time if it's only giving out about our boys enjoying being children. - Name & Details with Editor.

As expected the new Bin Tax will be in full swing on the 4th March. I got a notification from the council yesterday informing me of this and with a complementary free tag. Very generous...... I wonder how much extra rubbish that these will create seen as

1) They are made of paper
2) Have a plastic coating on them

In this drive to be green should the council have not made these from a recyclable source that could in fact be collected from the bins and re sold on (After a quick clean).

I was also delighted to see that there are so many outlets to purchase these new tag's (sarcasm), There must be a couple of thousands houses in the whole estate and the closest point by car to purchase one of the tags is Blanch Village!!!!! What is wrong with the SPAR??? (Out side of being outrageously over priced, long lines, bad parking) - Yours - Reluctant to pay the tax and not willing to drive a 5 mile round trip.

As a follow up to the comments regarding Parking on Grass Verges, I would have to say that I am equally as fed up with this practice. I am living in Littlepace and unfortunately the practice of parking two wheels on the grass verge is all too common. Do the people who are doing this not realise that they are destroying their own environment and de-valuing their property an also that of others??? One house on the street on which I live has a virtual swamp in front of it, and when the offending van is driven away its tyres leave a trail of muck right up the street into the turning circle and back down again. A little consideration please!

Try selling a house in a clean tidy well looked after area, and it will be a lot easier than selling in an area where trees are vandalised or storm damaged and not replaced, grass verges are destroyed due to parked cars and lack of maintenance, litter blows about the streets and to top it all off you can barely drive up the street due to cars parked inconsiderately, never mind the possibility that emergency service vehicles may not be able to pass! The very annoying feature is that we all pay up to half a lifetime's earnings when you consider interest paid over the life of a mortgage, to live in such an area where people basically don't care what it looks like. Is it so much to ask that we
a) don't have our streets looking like a commercial vehicle parking lot
b) look after the little bit of space in front of our houses and refrain from parking on verges
c) actually put vehicles in the driveways for which they are so designed - Details with Editor.

With regards to Taxis charging high fares to Clonee because its "off the meter " - Where is Clonee, Dublin.15 ? Does such an address exist in reality? Isn't Clonee in Co.Meath and Dublin15 in the county of Dublin. Shouldn't this address be clarified once and for all for Littlepace and adjacent estates especially with the pending elections.- JT
I want to thank the editors for a concise and very informative web site, well done. My family moved into Hunter's Run not too long ago, and my wife has just returned to work after maternity leave. While reading the comments page I came across a message posted regarding Day Care. We were in desperate need of Daycare for our 3 children, one fulltime and the other 2 in school, so requiring before and after school care. My wife had been a stay-at-home mum so finding a loving and trustworthy day care provider was very important. We decided to do some checking ourselves on the daycare providers in our area, and to be honest there were little or none available. The person in Bramblefield, who I see has posted her name and cell phone number today and advertises herself as "KIND AND RELIABLE" was recommended to my wife in work. After reading the comments on this web page I decided to do ground work and check to see if the remarks in the notice were true, not fully knowing who the comments referred to, but it was my childrens welfare that was going to be at stake. Am I glad that I did. What my research did was to provide me with information relevant to make sure that no child be put in this persons care. I want to thank the person that wrote the comments, but for them, We would not have known what to look for and would have through desperation placed our children with this person. Thanks again to the editors and to the writer of the Daycare message. - A concerned Father, but happy one now.

I am nearly sure it is the same dog I had misfortune to meet some time back .... a collie dog came out from its side gate, raced at me and pinned to my feet barking like a mad thing. It did not try to bite me, but it gave me such a fright I avoided walking that way for some time to come. It came from a Hunters Run house that faces onto the road. If this is the same dog I cannot believe it is still terrorising people. On another note I did have a stray dog sitting outside my house and scratching my door way for some time, and the Dog Pound on the Navan Road were quite willing to take him away from me. It annoys me when you see these people lock their dogs up all day and then let them out in the evenings to terrorise people out for a walk..... a quick call to the dog pound might sort them out! -EOD

We are writing to query certain things in relation to our area.

· Area name
· Schools & Parish Church
· Taxi Situation.

Area Name

When initially buying the house we were informed that it was Clonee from the estate agents, it was subsequently then "Off the Navan Road" and now it is called anything from Clonee, Littlepace, Huntstown, Mulhuddart and even our polling cards state "Blakestown". (I think not). This is totally an unacceptable situation. How the postman knows where to deliver the post is itself amazing. I am approximately 3 years in my house at present and still have confusion over the address. I would like this clarified and if every household in our community were told of our correct address. At a meeting in the Mill House Pub, Clonee one resident brought this up with one local politician who informed her as far as he was aware our area was Clonee so why all the confusion. When a package arrives and we have to collect same instead of calling to our local post office in Clonee Village we have to drive 4 miles to an industrial estate near Blanchardstown Shopping Centre to collect same (what happens if you don't have access to a car!!)

Schools & Parish Church

This is another area we would like clarification on. The residents of our area campaigned for a school that has been set up in a prefab building. The church is proposed for the wasteland beside the Littlepace Shopping Centre but I suppose that is years down the road judging by the length of time the school took. My query is however we recently received a notice from the parish priest in Huntstown Church informing us that if we lived from Pheasant Run downwards we were not allowed send our children to the local school for our area/community but they had to be sent to the Huntstown School. What sort of a message is this for our area, we campaigned for a school that is of no benefit to us. Most of the householders who attended the meetings for the school were in their areas long before any bricks were laid on the new areas and now we have been informed tough - you must send your child to another area. How are we supposed to grow as a community if this is the attitude they are adopting?

Furthermore, when the parish church goes up at the Littlepace Shopping Centre, are we to assume that if we live from Pheasant Run downwards, our parish church is located behind us in another estate.

For your information the parish priest from Huntstown Fr. John Jones did apply for planning permission for a road to come through from Huntstown to allow people accessibility to the church and school but it was refused. One assumes from this that we were to have our own services. (what's changed?). The leaflet put through our letterbox stated that we had to abide by these rules and only if our child's name was down previously or if they had sister/brother in the school would their application be entertained. Is this the be all and end all of the situation or do the people of this community have a choice. Why should we have to send our children to a school in another area?? If and when the Mary Mother of Hope School is extended are we then going to be allowed to have access for our children or is it written in stone that we have to send them to Huntstown. As we were aware when we bought our houses that Huntstown was our neighbouring area, now one can assume they are splitting our community in two and forcing parents to send their children outside the area. I would like this situation addressed!! Why should we campaign for services like schools and parishes in our community only to be told we have to avail of the services elsewhere and allow new households in the areas who had not even bought their houses when the campaigning began to gain all the benefit.

Taxi Situation

The taxi situation as recently addressed by other people in the area is a disgrace. Half the time the taxi men refuse to bring you to Clonee, one neighbour was actually asked to exit the taxi in Blanchardstown on her way from the city centre as the taximan refused to go to Clonee stating it was off the metre. If we get a taxi to nearby Huntstown we have to walk - through the estate though it is much cheaper it is not very safe especially for women coming home on their own but what choice do we have when they refuse to go to Clonee. Furthermore, if we go to the village the taxi situation is a joke!! The two taxi ranks which were currently there are no longer and residents are forced to walk home.

Whilst on the subject of public transport when are we to get proper bus services to and from the city centre. At present as I understand it we have only two bus journeys to and from the city (into town in the mornings and home in the evenings). Whilst this is a good service what happens if you're stranded during the day and need to go to the city. I know they have a City Imp service to and from Blanchardstown but for the volume of houses we need more.

We hope the above can be addressed.

Very confused Bramblefield & Pheasant Run Residents.

I have witnessed, on several occasions young boys (approx 13/14) using quads or trikes to race across the parks between Hunters Run and Littlepace. Apart from the obvious destruction to the greens to which there is some, there is the danger to others. Do these young boys have insurance? It is necessary, by law, to hold current insurance, at least 3rd. party if you use a mechanically propelled vehicle in a public place . It is unlikely an insurance company would grant cover to a minor. Where are the parents of these children? Are they not concerned for the safety of their children and the safety of others using these parks, not to mention the destruction to the green areas. Am I alone in my concerns? - MFC - Littlepace.

In response to the issues of stray dogs I am writing about the amount of, and ferocity of (Apparently) Stray dogs around the Hunters Run Area. In Particular a Collie (A Lassie Look-alike) and a Bulldog that are running around, barking & chasing people, particularly Women with Children. This is particularly frightening for the Parent and the Child to have a hyperactive, vicious animal running after then constantly barking. I am presuming they are tied up in their Back Garden all day and are only released out on the street when the owner comes home. The majority of Dog owners are caring and sensible, and exercise their dog on a lead or release them under the owners careful eye on the numerous grassy areas, but there are a few (enough to cause Concern) who let their animals roam around the cul de sacs to get their exercise.

If you own a "Lassie look-alike" or a bulldog around the Hunters run Area, Please PUT IT ON A LEAD. All I will say is... If I see it & If I get near it..........!!!! - Thank You. - A Concerned Hunters Run Parent.

Why do people insist on Parking on the Green Verges outside their homes .I have noticed though that the majority of people that are doing this are the people that are Renting although not all. They are destroying these and they should not be allowed to do this. There is a particular verge in Hunter's Run / Deerhaven that is now like a Swamp due to this and looks disgraceful. Coincidental the house across from this is rented and all the residents proceed to park on this Verge. Have these people no respect? - Regards M
Great to see the roads being started in Littlepace - Thanks Johnny! At least now there will be a lot less dirt and dust to eat! JM

I just want to address the Issue of cars STILL driving over the Green area between the Hunter's Run and Rusheeney Village. A friend of mine has recently purchased a house in Rusheeney Village and I give her a lift to work on some occassions. I pick her up at the Footpath that has recently been built by Mennolly Properties on the Green between the two estates. At 7:00 am on Thursday the 14th of February I was waiting there when a man asked me to move my car so he could get across. I refused point blankly and told him this was a footpath not a Road .He continued to wait and only moved when I took his registration and make of car which is a Renault Laguna 94D21781.The person I was picking up could have been seriously hurt if the car had drove over the footpath as she was crossing. This morning was very Icy. There is going to be a serious accident here as School children cross here to go to Huntstown / Hartstown school. Can anyone tell me whom I can contact about this? I have contacted Fingal County Council about this before but they are still not in Charge of this Green area yet and I also rang up Mennolly properties who basically said go away. I would like to report this Vehicle and it might combat the issue. - Martina
In response to Declan's query re the land facing HBP (not the area designated for parkland) this area has been purchased for the building of houses. It has been purchased by Lynam Bros and as yet there is no sign of anyone building on it. There is a sign for planning permission opposite the last roundabout as you enter the estate - have a read of that and you may find out a bit more. - R

Since we are all responsible people and most of us are compassionate I would like to bring up the problem of stray dogs around our estates. The problem lies with male dogs following females and the number of puppies that are being produced by dogs whose owners who refuse spay and neuter. There are 30,000 healthy animals destroyed in our pounds yearly because of this, most of them are surrendered by their owners. Please do not take a dog to the pound - it will be destroyed immediately or in 5 days 90% of dogs are destroyed. A good home can be found for more info please mail me Tara@Webhedgehog.com or see www.dogrescueireland.com

Drumcondra vets across from the Skylon hotel will spay/neuter in 2 hours no overnight stay and very reasonably if you want details mail me at Tara@webhedgehog.com. See http://www.dogrescueireland.com/spayneuter.htm for all the reasons to have this done.

Please, please, please have your male dogs neutered and females spayed especially if they are allowed to wander. Their offspring are being dumped, drowned, left in black bags to suffocate and destroyed. We need to wake up and address this issue. Let no resident be responsible for this. There is an alternative.

Put a collar on your dog and write your phone number inside with pen the pound will check here if they brought in. Alternatively get a tag made.

If you have lost your dog Ashtown pound are 8383236 it will more than likely be taken there. If you have found a dog call Ashtown pound to report it found as the owner will of reported missing. - Tara

Only one way to stop it is to get your Chinese from somewhere else. Such a place is the Garden House Clonsilla or the other one that will open up across the road. - Hazelbury Resident
A good child minder is worth her weight in gold. If you have a good one then you are lucky. Unfortunately that is not always the case. It is very unlikely that legitimate references have been given in the case of a first time child minder, who do you ask for references when they have never provided the service before? This then requires you having to do a little more work to find out if the person you are trusting your children with is going to take care of your children as well as they take care of their own.. It doesn't take much to register a child minding business and child minding Ireland will give you a complete list of things you should look for when seeking a child minder for your children. - R
There appears to be a lack of co-ordination between the various residents' associations in the various estates. I have frequently clicked on the links from this site to find the individual RA websites set up are rarely updated - in fact they all contain out of date information.

Could there be a special effort to establish a combined residents' association like in Dunboyne and have all interested groups working together? United we stand, divided we fall. - Will

It is amazing how the minute an election appears so do the party candidates stuffing rubbish through your door. In three days I had mailers from Fine Gael, the PD's and Labour. I am intending to vote for the candidate who will improve local services, local schools, roads and transportation - not put bin taxes in place, just peek their head out of Castleknock every now and then and not bother to return telephone calls (a particular PD candidate!) I will reluctantly vote for Labour in this election - their candidate having been highly visible on the ground here for the last 5 years since losing her seat. Terry & Morrissey can hold their breath for my vote and if you think the FF's are getting it they can FF off. A break from my FF roots I do with mixed feelings.

It's the year of the rose - thank you Cllr Joan Burton for all you have done for this area! - Ger

Childminder required preferably in minders own home for school going girl and 6mth old boy, 3 days per week only, good rates paid. References essential. Please phone 01 8219048
Just an observation, why oh why do people insist on parking on the main street in Clonee village.... when there are 2 perfectly good car parks provided (one behind the Chinese & one behind the Chemist on the other side of the road)! It main street is narrow enough and with people parked on both sides of the road.... it's difficult to get through, especially when a large bus/truck is also trying to pass. I must say it is the laziest thing I have seen.... and I must add it is usually 'couch potato types' that seem to need to park right outside the door of the Chinese/off licence...... etc to waddle in to the shop......leaving traffic chaos behind them, oblivious to it!!! They should be ashamed of themselves.... PLEASE USE THE CAR PARKS!!! - Manorfields Resident
In response to the comments regarding the childminder in Bramblefields, I don't know if the person being referred to is the lady that minds my 2 children. I had an ad on the Clonee website looking for a minder and this lady answered. I have checked all her references and I'm absolutely thrilled with the way she looks after them, my children are the most important people in my life (I don't think of them as possessions), I certainly wouldn't leave them with just anyone in fact I was looking for a good minder for over 6 months and I've had my fair share of wasters. I'm a very concerned parent and I know what care they are receiving, I work in the Clonee area and I'm able to drop in anytime This lady in question employs another girl and they mind 10 children in total (4 of their own and 6 charges), all the children go on different days, mine go 3 days a week.
So there are never 10 children on any 1 day. The children are all well looked after in a loving warm home from home environment and I couldn't ask for better, How does this person know that the minder looks after "up to 8 children" without knowing that there are 2 women involved, Whoever you are you obviously have too much time on your hands and decided to give working mums a battering. I think these women should be praised for providing a service to working mums, and I certainly don't think that they are cleaning up, If anything childminders are the lowest paid workers.

In reply to CC's Message. I'm very sorry but I don't have an address or phone no, When you drive into the estate behind spar, its the 1st house to your right, there is a prefab building in the side of the garden, If you are still unsure knock into any house on that road and I'm sure 1 of the neighbours will direct you, Alternatively have you looked at Angels Paradise in Hansfield, They definitely take part timers, 3 euros an hr, But I wasn't impressed with it 2 yrs ago, maybe its changed now.

I am buying a house in Hazlebury Park at the moment. I am wondering can anyone tell me what is planned for the empty field opposite the entrance to Hazelbury Park (not the area marked for Parkland). What is it designated for and has anyone applied for planning permission there yet?. I know I can find this out in the Council Offices but it is difficult to find the time to get up there. I was hoping somebody already knows this info. - Declan
Could you put a map on the web-site www.clonee.org ? I just moved into The Rise Hunters Run but to get out by car takes ages. Just want to discover the logic in the design if there's any at all. - Kenneth
This e-mail refers to a subject that sets a lot of alarm bells off. How many parents check out their day care providers? police check, department of health check and references? We take better measures when soppping for a new car then we do trusting or most precious posessions...... our children.

One such provider in Bramblefield is been allowed to conduct such a business without following the guidelines and the law. On top of three children of her own she is taking in on an average anywhere up to eight children.

What kind of care should you expect? and what kind of care are your children actually receiving? Please be a concerned parent and vet your day care provider. Our children are entitled to the best care possible especially when we pay for it.

I would just like to thank both the Hazelbury and Manorfields Residents who have answered my questions re: the planning of the estate. I do apologise for my bluntness, however as you can imagine my frustration was fuelled by a lack of clear answers from both Menolly and Fingal. I did call Fingal but kept getting transferred around between departments. I am relieved to hear that we will have another road.....and not have to go via Clonee to get to Spar, although you are right our Spar shop is so slow, I think we might be quicker walking to Navan!! I too have decided to use the village shops rather than Littlepace - to save time and money!!!

I will take your advice and go in and see the plans for myself.......perhaps if they will let me take a copy, I will give them to the residents association representative and they could be displayed on the site, and help clear this up for any other worried residents!!

From what you tell me the plans sound great, and are actually going to ease traffic congestion in the area! Just wondering which planning office did you call into? - J, Manorfields Resident

I've been living in Hunters' Run for almost four years now and the drainage in our gardens, particularly our back garden, has always been bad. But this year it's been worse than ever and I'm talking about before the past weeks' heavy rainfalls, when the Met Office were saying it was a rather dry winter. Does anyone know if there is any legal obligation on a builder to drain land properly before selling it? I tried to dig a drainage ditch, but to no avail. The soil is very solid and boggy, almost like putty and it takes forever for the water to go anywhere. Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is having any problems of this sort in the surrounding estates. We can't do anything with our garden now and given a few weeks I reckon we might need to put a small boat on the lawn to get to the shed! - P. Fegan
Does anybody have the latest info on the pub proposed for Littlepace Shopping Centre. Personally I can't wait for this to go ahead. Its a good 30min walk from our home at Rosedale to the nearest pub in Clonee village and with no consistent taxi service its 30mins home again. - R. Linn
Thank you to the lady with the details of Teddy's Montessori. I drove round there yesterday, but it wasn't obvious to me which house it was. I was wondering if you could reply back with a phone number, address or directions. I really appreciate this info. - Many thanks again...CC

With reference to the discussion on the temporary road situation in Manorfields, it is true that entrance to the estate via the dale is a temporary road and that the road via Ravenswood will be our primary entrance however the builders cannot close off the temporary road until they open our secondary road which will cut across the field opposite Ravenswood and join up with the roundabout near Rosedale. The problem lies with the fact that this road crosses land that does not belong to Mennolly but to the other crowd that built the Littlepace estate, hence the delay. If you look at the brochures for Ravenswood you will see where the secondary road is to go. Hazelbury and Castaheany Residents and Fingal Co/Co. are rightly putting pressure on Menolly to finish off the Parkland near their estates which our temporary road runs through however according to Cllr Joan Burton nothing can finished until the problem with the temporary road is sorted. - Manorfields Resident
To all woman who dread the pain of Waxing - I would like to tell everyone about Colette's new Salon. I had a full leg/bikini wax from her last night and it was the most painless wax in my entire life. She uses a special type of wax that reduces the normally excruciating pain. She also has a particular method that definitely does the trick. The whole process was completely bearable, and I will no longer look forward to my waxing sessions with dread and apprehension. (I used to take painkillers before hand!!!) If I had never experienced this, I would never have believed it could be possible to be so less painful. I would recommend everyone should try it. Especially if you've been thinking about waxing for the first time, she's very reassuring and kind. - Lisa W.
In response to J from Manorfields, my comment was not meant as "told you so". I took a half day from work so I could find out what was around the estate before I spent a fortune on a house. I assume you would not buy a car without viewing its track record and a house is a far more expensive buy, therefore would it have been advisable to do some ground work or ask a friend or relative to check for you.

I do have some good news for you will not have to go through Clonee to access your area. The road that enters the estate and continues through the roundabout will eventually exit at the back road to Clonsilla allowing access to the shops by car. This road will also be altered so that it meets up with the Snugburough Road therefore making even easier access to Blanchardstown Shopping Centre. A path will be maintained across the field therefore still offering access by foot to the local shops. On top of this Ongar Chase the new estate opposite the entrance to yours will have its own shops that will act as another local amenity for yourselves. In all honesty I travel by car to Clonee Village if I require anything, the queues are shorter, the prices are cheaper and their staff friendlier. My only negative comment to J. is rather than ask people for information try and discover some for yourself, the planning office has all of this information, also new houses being sold have some of these roads outlined in their brochures. - D. In response to CC's request for a playgroup in Dublin 15, There is one in Littlepace (behind Spar) called Teddy's Montessori, Teacher is a lady called Nichola. It is an excellent little school (and very reasonable too when my daughter went it cost 80 pounds a month but its worth checking out), I'm not sure if she takes part timers though. Hours are Mon - Fri 9:30 til 12:30. Drop in and ask.

I live in Hazelbury Park and have to wake up every day to the horrible stones in cages outside my house. The builders told us they had to put these awful cages up because they could not put a wall there due to the foundations underneath. We believed them and then when we moved into our house in April 2000 we were told these cages would be covered with grass and plants within 6 months. It has now been almost two years and they are still as much of an eyesore as when we first moved in. I have complained to the builders many many times but they always fob me off. I know this is on the list of complaints that the residents association has compiled but we do not seem to be getting anywhere on this. A few months ago I heard that there was a plan to protest at the new show houses to make the builders take more notice of us in relation to this matter but that was the last I heard about it. Is there anything new happening regarding getting this eyesore covered up? - S from Hazelbury Park.

Could anyone recommend a local (Dublin 15) playschool, that is for 3+, doesn't cost the earth and is for morning sessions during school term. The creches I have enquired at are so expensive and I don't want 5 mornings, which is all they can offer.
Please help...CC

Just in response to the Hazelbury Resident re: the builders etc. I do agree Jimmy Walsh relatively efficient, not overly, considering that is his job, in the same way I go to work every day!

However, when we started asking him 'difficult' questions about the layout of the estate/access roads etc, he couldn't answer!! The Dublin West area has (mainly thanks to Fianna Fail TD's) been badly planned and built up without the provision of proper infrastructure. I do not have time to take a day off and go and view plans in Fingal County office, I expect the Developers to be honest with me as I hand over the deposit cheque. It was not marked on the plans as temporary, and we were told by the sales reps, that all 'our' facilities i.e.: Spar and school, etc, would be developed further when the estate was finished, how can that be any use to us now if that road is closed off!!!??? Or are we expected to drive / walk to Clonsilla or possible via Clonee!!!? We will have not local amenities. The estate in our brochure was described as, 'off the Navan Road', how is that going to fit in with Mennoly's new plans!?

If anyone has any 'useful' information for me rather than 'told you so' I'd appreciate it! Web site gets better each time I look at it! - J, Manorfields Resident

I am concerned at the real lack of community protests regarding the bin charges recently highlighted through this website. There has been no door-to-door campaign organised by the local residents associations - including mine in Littlepace.

Come on guys, these charges are ridiculous. It might be OK for the rich and established to pay these fees, but what about first time buyers like me who already hang themselves taking on huge mortgages just to live in a nice area? Cllrs Burton and Higgins have done something, but there needs to me MORE activity. - Tara

Local Chinese Scenes Garden is a disgrace. Last evening I placed an order, had to wait over an hour, when I got it, it was cold and to add insult to injury the price was .80c more than on the INFLATED EURO MENU which is already MORE EXPENSIVE than the Punt equivilent. This type of robbery carries a prision sentence - it's totally unjust. Can't wait for the new Chinese to open!! - Cookie Monster (Real Name & Addy with Editor)
Anyone familiar with a kiddies football team in the area? My some is interested in joining (10 Y/o). I might also be interested in contributing time and some sponsorship. Eammon Gilmore, Clonee.
Congratulations on a truly comprehensive website. Are there any plans to develop a website for Linnetsfield residents? I feel a little left out! - John
I would like to know who sanctioned the closure of the pedestrian entrance/exit from Linnetfields? It's an inconvenience to have to walk an extra two minutes (on a cold wet dark morning that's a lot) to an already distant bus stop (its about 1 mile to the local bus stop for Linnetfields residents). Any tips on how Dublin Bus can be persuaded to increase both the volume of buses and the route they take within the estate to service all of the old, new and emerging housing developments?

I agree with a previous comment written about Menolly Homes - Linnetfields residents have had to put up with mucky, dangerous roads leading into the estate and huge puddles of mud and dirt as they get out of their cars, due to the fact that Menolly haven't bothered to finish off the roads. I think 16 months is long enough for the original roads to have settled and its time for the area to be tarmac'd.

My final gripe is about the utility units in Linnetfields - where residents are supposed to have car-washing facilities amongst others. Boards blocking access to the units were put in place by Ross McParland when the showhouses were on view and haven't been removed - who is responsible for taking this hoarding down? Surely at the rate we have to wash our cars with all of the building work mess around, we should be able to avail of the facilities originally offered to us. - EC - Linnetfields Resident

A few comments on Littlepace shopping centre

1.) I feel that the car park can be a little dangerous with cars coming in and driving out at all angles. I have seen numerous incidents where drivers almost collide because of no clear right of way. If there was an accident under these circumstances - most likely both drivers would be equally liable as there are no markings. Have there been any accidents?? Who's responsibility is it to make this car park more user friendly ands safe for drivers..?

2.) I see there have been a few comments about the Spar shop and the long queues. This is certainly very frustrating. Surely management can easily predict the peak times and put more staff on. It is a regular occurrence to see customers walk in, look at the length of the queue and walk back out..! If there was room to turn this shop into a larger supermarket with proper checkouts, it's pretty obvious it would do very well. - AM

Builders are a law unto themselves but you can't blame them on everything. I purchased my home from Menolly Homes any problem I had was quickly sorted out by Jimmy Walsh (the foreman). I noticed the road entering Hazelbury & Manorfields at the time was clearly marked on the plans as a temporary road. Before I signed for my house I went into the planning office and viewed the area, this is when I discovered how I would enter Hazelbury in the future. On all maps the other road was marked as temporary, it had no lights or boundaries. It was at this stage people should have checked how they were going to enter their houses, not two years on when it two years too late. - Hazelbury Green Resident
In response to the price increases by Scenes Garden, at a time they should be trying to establish customer loyalty they fleece their customers. Their price hike will be at their own expense, due to open just up the road is another Chinese. Maybe then will they understand what happens when you try and take people for a ride. - Hazelbury Green Resident
I am furious at the cheek of Scenes Garden Chinese in the Village. They have increased their prices and hidden it in their menu through the Euro changeover. Their Set Dinner A which used to be £16.00 in old money is now €22.00 or £17.33 an substantial increase. Their single portions of soup have increased by 19c or 15p in old money. All the way through their menu there are prices increases upon price increases. I could only find 2 instances where prices were reduced - and only then was it by under 2p! This type of behaviour is disgraceful - an complete breech of good faith which was requested regarding pricing and the Euro changeover. I shall never order from this establishment again and would encourage others to be wary of prices from similar outlets. - Gerry

To all Irresponsible Dogs Owners - I would like to comment on the amount of dog excrement on our paths and green areas in the estate. As an owner of two dogs I find it offensive and embarrassing, you are giving all dogs owners a bad reputation. When I walk my dogs, I make sure to have plastic bags with me so that any offending material can be removed and disposed of correctly. The problem is certainly increasing and apart from the obvious, immediate, negativity's of this, it is a danger to children in the area. Would you like to be responsible for a child loosing their sight or worse from Toxocariasis? According to Fingal Co Co it was estimated that last year 31% of children came into contact with this disease. This is a frightening statistic. REMEMBER the fine for not cleaning up is now EUR125! It is also illegal to allow dogs to roam uncontrolled, the dog warden is entitled to collect any roaming dogs and bring them to the pound. So please the next time you let your dog out make sure to have your plastic bags at the ready! - Lisa, Swallowbrook.
Yea Gareth, all the services in Littlepace are a rip off and I go to the Village now instead-Its not a million miles away is it and also that Spar is very slow, I'd be quicker printing the Star or the Sun than waiting for it there.......... - Brian
I am just wondering if anyone knows anything about the proposed cul de sac for Manorfields Dale. I have heard rumours that this will be closed off, and that Manorfields residents will be forced to use the Ravenswood exit on to the back road...thus no longer part of the Castaheany area...surely this cannot be allowed to happen. This is all due to the fact that Mennolly homes, never had planning permission for the 'road' or muck path now in leading up to Manorfields!

I purchased my house almost 2 years ago and reached the show houses via Navan Road, and was given the address of 'off the Navan Road'. This change will completely alter what I purchased, while I would welcome the additional route through Ravenswood, which would ease traffic. They cannot completely block our access to the Navan Road, adding an extra 20 minutes to almost every journey I make. It will also mean no access to our local facilities, Spar, Dry Cleaners, Video shop etc......

I have had enough of Mennolly Homes, and would not recommend anyone purchase one of there homes, unless they are prepared for a battle, for simple things such as street light and finished foot paths! While I love my house and the area, Mennolly are con artists, taking advantage of young naive buyers! Once they get your cheque, they don't care what happens.

I would appreciate if anyone with any information on this proposed cul de sac could let me know, as if they are building a wall there, it will have to be over my dead body.....

Once again keep up the great work on the website! - Manorfields Resident

In reply to Robbie's comment on opening from Littlepace Park to Hazelbury park. I am a resident of Hazelbury Park and feel for people who may have been misinformed by builders and estate agents as to the area layout. The fact of the matter is a gate does exist and was put there for a reason. I do not condone the vandalism of the railings but I have travelled from the Hazelbury side across the mud and see why somebody may have tried to make the access easier. As far as I am aware a vote of all Hazelbury park residents is to be taken to see if they want access through here or a wall or fence of some description. The residents association are seemingly waiting on Fingal or the builder to submit a plan. I hope this access remains open and also hope in the spirit of community people will use this access wisely. - Commentsman
I am currently thinking about buying a house in Hazelbury Park, but am wondering if anyone knows about the road that has now been closed off to the right of the entrance to the estate. Is this a permanent closure, or will this road be re-opened for use at all? - EOD.
