DOUGLAS WEST PEDESTRIAN CROSSING

Dear Mr O'Hanlon,

You have mentioned this before, however I would like to bring the following incident to your attention.
On Saturday evening last, I was crossing the pedestrian crossing in Douglas West, near Dino's take-away, with my 2-year old child, when we were nearly run over by a car breaking the red light. The car with an L plate, was driven by a young woman, on her way to collect a Chinese take-away. When I challenged her that she had run a red light and nearly hit us both, I got a smirk, a sneer and a condescending "I know, I'm sorry" as an answer (without a trace of sincerity).
It is only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt, or killed, on
this crossing. Cars regularly keep on going regardless of what colour the light is and cars coming from the Shopping Centre seem to think it does not apply to them. To all drivers please take more care. To the driver of the Punto, I would fear for her future and that of the people she meets.

CALLING ALL RECENTLY LANDED SOUTH AFRICANS!

Dear Editor
Firstly would like to congratulate you on a truly informative and lively weekly magazine which is so handy to have in your home, filled with interesting happenings in our area. We are a family recently arrived in Douglas from South Africa, yes that remote country down at the end of the earth. The people of Ireland and certainly this area have been wonderful, they have made our family really feel welcome. It is quite an ordeal uprooting ones household to another country, especially when it is some thousands of miles away. Our thanks and appreciation is expressed to the folk in this town for being so dear !!! We know there are other South Africans here in this immediate area and would invite them to give us a call so we can get to know them and hopefully make them feel as welcomed as we have been. So, SOUTH AFRICANS recently landed in Cork ? give us a call on (021) 4369875 - we would love to hear from you. Deirdre, Michael and Chantal Wroth.
